My baby only sleeps when I hold him?

My 4 month old baby boy had been sleeping so so good in his crib the past few weeks until we took him to the hospital and he got 5 doses of prednisone. They gave him one dose at the hospital and he slept really good that night (which I thought might've been because he had been sick and had been up for a while because he couldn't sleep). I gave him another dose on Thursday, one on Friday, one Saturday, and his last dose was Sunday. He stayed with his nana on Sunday night and she said he woke up more than usual and last night he would sleep when I held him but would automatically wake up when I put him in his crib. I put a blanket down under him because I thought it might be cold on the mattress and it seemed to work but he woke up within 45 minutes. He had been fed so I knew he wasn't hungry. Every time I picked him back up he'd go back to sleep. What can I do to help? Could the medicine be the reason? When will it be out of his system? It's just so frustrating that I don't know what to do. How could I warm his mattress before I lay him down? What do you think it might be?

I'm a pharmacist. Prednisone is a steroid. We recommend take it first thing in the morning and on a full stomach. Steroids can keep you awake at night if taken too late in the day And can sometimes cause an upset stomach.

Good luck with the sleeping thing. Can only help with the warm crib. Suggest a warm hot water bottle tucked in the crib before bedtime/naptime. Practice removing it whilst holding your LO when they are awake. When i tried this the first time i realised that i had to remove the bottle and had my LO in a two handed grip that she would wake from if shuffled. Should go without saying that the hwbottle must be removed.
Also, at four months, have you tried grobags? My LO is nicely warm and tucked up and doesn't notice the colder crib sheets as she is zipped into her sleeping sack.

Mmm, ive just been reading about 'wonder weeks' and the 4 mnth developmental phase that can disrupt sleep and leave baby crying more, clingy & cranky. I think my wee boy is going through this at the moment too x
