so today i went for my routine weekly friday scan i have these each week to check on babys growth since having obstetic cholestius (cant spell) anyways the lady spent a long while looking around his heart and tummy area, i asked is evreything ok and she said well the babys fine but im going to call another lady in as his heart doesnt seem to be in the correct place..... wtf!!!!! i have had a scan evrey week since i was 5 months gone..... im now almost 35 weeks.... so anyway another lady comes in and agrees his heart is on the right instead of the left, hearing this i burst into tears what does this mean???? i have no idea, and why hasnt it been picked up before now???? im being transfered to birmingham womens hospital to see a specialist on tuesday have been crying on and off all day i pray little man will be ok does anyone no anyone else that has had this and what happened xx thanks xx:nope:

I have no experience of this but just wanted to offer my support. I am sure that ur baby will be fine xxx

No idea unfortunately, praying you get answers though and that baby is fine :hugs: x

I don't have any personal experience with this, but my friend's brother's heart is on the right side. He's currently 29 years-old and if she hadn't told me about it, I wouldn't have known there was anything different. I have no idea if he required extra care as an infant/child.

:hugs: to you, I'm sure your LO is going to be ok!

i do actually know someone whos heart is also on the right side, they did tell my what the name of it is but i cant remember big word very well.
but just to put your mind at rest a small amount, his heart was monitered alot as a kid, but he lives his life exactly the same as everyone else. plays alot of sports and even has a family of his own.
i hope this makes you feel better.

It's called dextrocardia hun and people live absolutely normal lives. Baby will just have to have checkups now and again to make sure there are no other problems associated with it. Baby will be fine hun x x

How scary for you! Thinking of you and lo!!

Awe, that is scary, I dont blame you for being upset about this JUST being found out now too....geesh! I am sure, like the other ladies said, that your baby will be fine with just some extra attention.

HUGS

thanks evreyone has made me feel so much better i kept thinking the worse i know he is ok cos he keeps kicking me and i know he has a strong heart i was so shocked when they told me and i was on my own so was scared but dont understand why they only just noticed it, im hoping they will get him out very soon now. 5 weeks seems to long xx

Everything will be just fine and baby will be perfect :)

I dont have experience with this condition but they look after you well in Birmingham Womens Hospital, I travel 170 miles there and 170 miles back for my treatment and theyre great x

You poor thing! How horrible! I can't believe that it's only been picked up now. I assume you would ahve had an anomaly scan, how could they not have picked this up earlier???

Hopefully you'll get some answers on Tuesday!

I know how you feel hun, I got told at 33 weeks that my baby has an enlarged ventricle in his brain. Now it could be nothing and just go on it's own or it could get worse and he may need surgery once he is born.
It's hard not to worry but now I just figure what will be will be, nothing I can do to change it, we just have to pray that all ends up fine x

I hope it all goes ok. Just think of him as your extra special and unique little baby.
:flower:

thanks for all the positive comments will keep posted what happens x

Actually this is common. I am in school for Radiology and we see it all of the time! There should be no problems at all. Remember, all of this technology just became available. (scans and such.) There are even cases where all of the organs are swaped to opposite sides!!! Don't worry. Nothing is "wrong", just different.

My cousin's heart is on the wrong side. Because she had other (rare) heart problems, her mum got told she would live up to a year. She just celebrated her 27th birthday in july and gave birth to her second baby this summer (she was also told, it would be very hard for her to have kids- It was with the first one cos of IVF but she got pg naturally 4 months after giving birth !!). Both babies are healthy and my cousin is doing good too. Anyway, it looks like there has been a lot of positive comments of people with heart on the other side and i just wanted to say that even with rare cases like my cousin, doctors are doing great now.
