Hey ladies, just a wee update. I'm currently sitting feeding my little baby boy! He was born on Wednesday night, on his due date! He is amazing, we love him so much already!
The circumstances are quite strange with his birth! I had my midwife appointment that morning, and the head still wasn't engaged, no signs etc, so I thought was going to be a long way off. I did mention though that I'd had some watery discharge last 3 or 4 days, and I asked if there was a chance it could be amniotic fluid. She said it was worth being checked and arranged for me to go straight to the hospital.
They checked me out and said it looked like there could be a slight trickle of fluid, and as a precaution wanted to induce me that day!!
They let us go home to collect some things, then we came back and I was admitted at 1pm.
Before they could start the induction I had to wait in one ward and be monitored, while waiting for a free room in the labour suite.
By 8pm there was still
No bed and the induction hasn't been started and no checks of cervix or anything - I was none the wiser that labour was about to kick off by itself!
I had my first contraction just after 8, and a little bit of blood. My husband started timing contractions and they went from every 8 minutes to every 4 minutes within an hour! He went to tell a midwife, and she just kept saying, we're still waiting on a bed!
About 45 minutes later, they could see how much pain I was in, and a bed was made available - I had to walk the short distance to the room, stopping twice along the way with such strong contractions.
We got to the bed just after 10pm, and checked my cervix for the first time - I was 7 cms!! My plan all along was to have an epidural - I again asked for it at this point and told there was no anaesthetist available and it was too late anyway! I said what about diamorphine, anything! Nope, too late! Was my biggest nightmare come true!
I was given gas and air which helped a little, but then was told, actually, this baby will be here VERY soon! They told me to start pushing if I felt I should, which I kind of did!
Once I started to push, they decided they wanted baby out ASAP as his heart rate went up really high and my temp was really high, so forceps came out! I couldn't handle them so they used the ventouse. The pushing stage only lasted half an hour and my little boy was born at 11.10pm!! 3 hours from start to finish!!
So weird how everything worked out!
If I hadn't been booked in for that induction, and things had happened so quickly and I'd been at home, I reckon I wouldn't have made it on time and my boy would have been born at home or in the car!!
I was just discharged today as breastfeeding wasn't well established, but better now.
Best of luck with everything, was lovely chatting with you all, will still be checking to find our how you all got on!xx
