My little one was born on 3/27. Sorry I've been MIA. I'm still learning to deal with being a Mom and a single parent.
I was scheduled for a c-section because my little one had been transverse for the entire pregnancy and my cervix was unchanged when I reached the 40 week mark. I had heard so many horror stories about C-sections that I was a little worried. However, like most things related to being a FTM, I realized that every one has their own experience and you have to take their advice with a grain of salt. Each pregnancy, delivery, baby.... is unique.
As for my C-section. There was very little pain. The worst part for me was getting the IV. I did not feel any pain when I got the spinal. Perhaps all of my physicians were experts but I actually felt a bit guilty for the entire experience. I never went into labor and thankfully with the pain meds, I did not have any pain after the surgery. The absolute worst part was 5 days later when I had my first bowel movement. I consider that my "labor" pain.
The C-section was a weird feeling. Slowly losing feeling in your lower body is a bit scary. I had to remind myself that I was about to be a Mother and that helped me cope with the strange sensation. There was a lot of pressure and pulling and then there was my baby! He was 8lbs and 10oz!
I was not able to breast feed right away. I was nauseous for a while after delivery and my little one had low blood sugar and had to be in the NICU for a couple of days for observation. I was a little concerned but the staff assured me it was not that unusual for a larger baby to have this issue.
I actually enjoyed my stay. I was in the hospital for 4 days and it was like a vacation for me. Good room service food and pain meds every 6 hours!
Feel free to ask any questions!
