My Oh n I were in town today just having a nose along the high st and we wandered past the butchers where there was a buggy outside, never paid much attention until we were just past it when we both heard a wee sob!

There was a baby who was maybe 3 months old in it and had obviously been crying for a bit cause it was now sobbing...I walked back to look inside and right enough there was a huge que but no sign of anyone looking out the window.

I felt so sorry for the wee mite that we hung about until what we assumed was his mother came out 15 MINUTES later!!God knows how long he had been there before we passed!!My OH stopped me saying anything but my god she got major stink eye from me!!I would NEVER leave my kids outside a shop ever!!If we all can't fit in,we don't go in!!

Might I also add it was -3 outside aand he only had a hat, coat and what looked like a holey blanket!!

I've seen that happen a lot here, though the babies usually aren't crying but once it was a tiny newborn screaming its lungs out :(
Though I've left Maria outside before but only when she's been asleep and I was only gonna be in there for 5 mins.

Is that legal where you are? It's not legal in the US to leave a baby in their stroller outside a store.

I understand in some areas/countries etc this is seen as the norm and is perfectly safe!Where Im from you don't risk leaving your kids anywhere unsupervised!!

What the hell. Anything could happen, regardless whether you could see your baby or not. And i'm guessing she would've intervened seeing you waiting with her baby if she could see LO so i'm assuming she couldn't. I know it was done in the past but god I wouldn't even have Joel more than an arms length away from me in his pushchair. Oh my god poor baby must have been so confused :( thinking about that poor, cold, crying baby just wanting a cuddle is horrible.

I agree with what OP said, I would be not so apprehensive in places where my family live in rural Poland and I guess it may be the same where you are.

Its pretty common practice here so I'm not worried about someone trying to steal her, I only ever worried that she would wake up and cry.

Poor wee mite :( I would never leave Thomas alone

I wouldn't leave my dog outside a shop let alone my baby!

I don't even let go of the cart if one of my kids is in it at the store... can't imagine leaving my baby unattended... outside, nonetheless! :( I believe its illegal here anyway... but I'm just too paranoid.

Yeah thats child neglect/abuse in america. I would of called the cops on the spot. thats abusive ESPECIALLY in the cold :( i hate people sometimes. I also would of marched in the store and found the mother and gave her a earful AFTER calling the cops.

I know it's illegal in the USA, but I wouldn't class it as child abuse. Neglect, maybe. Abuse is defined differently.

In some parts of the world, this is the norm and it was the norm in many places, including the USA and the UK until maybe 20 years ago?

I have stood in the doorway of the post office because it was too small for Alex's buggy to fit in (I was picking up a package), but he was never out of my sight.

It only takes a couple of seconds for a child to be snatched wherever you live!

Remember Maddie Maccann? :nope:

def not in Scotland! im with u there.....i dont even leave the dog outside a shop, let alone my son!

p.s food for thought....Neglect is Abuse. Abuse is neglect. This is drummed into us where i work with vulnerable people.

She is a different circumstance entirely. The children were not even in the same building as the adults. But I agree it takes seconds.
It is highly irresponsible and neglectful and I wouldn't dream of it. That poor cold upset baby :(

Its hardly abuse. The mother shouldn't have left the baby so long, and apparently not even watching, but leaving a baby outside is def not abuse (as long as they're properly dressed for the weather).

If it was abuse to leave a baby outside in the cold then almost every parent is abusive over here :haha: Maria slept outside in -7 today, poor child!

I live in Scotland and i have left Boo outside a shop doorway, but i have been right next to the door and within touching distance. Granted i live in a wee village where i was born and brought up (moved back here 4 months ago) and everyone knows everyone :D. If i went into the town though there wouldn't be a hope in hell i'd leave her. I think it depends where you live.
