posting this in here not much people on weaning and nutrition at the moment an di dont know what to do for her dinner today!so my LO is on two meals a day! her breaksfast which is usually banana porridge, mashed banana, baby rice etc! she loves her breakfast but thats the mistake i made! always giving her banana porridge and its a bit sweet but i didnt know what else to be giving for breakfast! ive been trying and trying to get her to eat mash potato and carrots or mash with parsnip but she is having none of it spits it all out or just screams the place down. did any of you have this problem girls and can offer any advice? would be greatly appreciated! is there anything i can use to make it a bit more tasty! my friend suggested butter but she shouldnt have dairy untill after 6 months should she? she is nearly 5 months! i thought maybe she wasnt ready for the 2nd meal but if i gave her more porridge or fruit pot etc she would eat it! ist just veg and mash she wont go near!
also with two meals a day should you be dropping bottles i presume you shouldnt because milk is important at this age. im always thinking im feeding her too much or she should be dropping a bottle! she takes 6 7oz bottles a day sometimes 5 if she goes sleep earlier!
any advice girls?

Dairy mixed in with food (cooking) is perfectly fine. Cows milk as a drink should not be given until one year :)

Oh, also, we're BLW. Some babies like stronger flavors. Mashed potato and carrot might be too bland. You can always add a pinch of black pepper to the potatoes. Shouldn't do any harm.

my hv told me not to use cows milk untill 6 months?? i put her own formula in with it but doesnt make a difference she just wont take it! perhaps its just the texture but i would love her to start loving her veg and mash!

Your friend is right - they can have dairy products after 6 months, so not long left :)

Have you tried mixing it with abit of baby rice? x

I had this problem when making lo food... Then I found he would eat most things from a jar just not my cooking so have stuck to jars...! We have slowly started to introduce some homemade food since Christmas but he still prefers the jars!

yes i was thinking of blw i was reading up on it there! if she wont start taking her purees i think i might try that!

Why dont u try with sweet potato? She might like the sweeter taste...and if she does you can start by adding other veg to it x

yeah i say she would prefer sweet potato i shall try that!

i put a spoon of apple sauce with new things i want bubs to try
just so he will get the idea and eventually i feed it without the applesauce.

e.g. i introduced peas on the weekend so a put a spoonful of apple sauce to two spoons of peas and as he finished that serving i added half a spoon of applesauce to two spoons peas etc etc
now he eats peas on its own

but yes i found mixinf beas etc with sweet potatoe went down better than just potatoe

I had the same problem when i started weaning, he wouldnt touch veg. Afteraweek, i switched to blw. He took to veg almost instantly after that, when he was allowed to explore at hs own pace and eat and noy eat what he wants.

Now he loves veggies, especially peas, sweetcorn and carrots :) he still doesnt like potato in any form though!

If blw isnt for you, the other ladies had brilliant suggestions

Hi, maybe she just is not ready? I don't know your reasons for weaning quite early but maybe just give her time because she still is quite young. Perhaps continue with breakfast in the morning and keep her on one meal a day for a few weeks. Then you could introduce veg as finger foods and let her explore at her own pace. It really will be hit and miss at the beginning but I do think in a few weeks or LO might be more ready to try new flavours. And I wouldn't think about dropping bottles this early as milk is most important at this stage x

Yeah I am going to read more about blw later sounds like fun too!

Hey lety i was adviced by my hv to start her on her second meal! I thought maybe she wasn't ready for a second meal but if I have her porridge or something else he loves having her dinners. It's just te veg and potatoes xx

my LO was the same with veg, try giving her the sweeter veg (babies have a naturally sweet tooth apparantley!) so sweet potato carrot butternutsquash parsnip and i added fruit to them so would do carrot and apple parsnip and pear ect and gradually reduced the amout of fruit i was puttin in, now she loves her veg she still loves her fruit too mind! hth! xx

So I tried again today! With sweet potato this time with parsnip wouldn't even eat one mouthful! It's starting to annoy me now! Looks like I will e starting to blw! Why veg should I try with her first broccoli? So she can hold it or carrot!

try putting 2 or 3 different veg on her tray, so carrot and broccoli is fine and then she can choose which one she wants to pick up. Don't be disheartened if all she does is throw it on the floor! I think BLW works best closer to 6 months but I'm sure if you put things in front of her once a day she'll pick it up. Oh and don't worry if she doesn't swallow anything right away - my LO took about 3 weeks before I actually noticed bits in her poo haha

Good luck
