My little man is 3 weeks old tomorrow and just doesn't stop eating! He is FF and between 12am and 7am he had 20oz, he's only 8.5lbs so should apparently only have 17oz to 22oz in 24hrs. Am I over feeding him?! We feed him on demand so no schedule..

You can't over feed a baby, if they take too much they will sick it all back up. It's probably the 3 week growth spurt, usually lasts a couple of days but it will pass! Just keep feeding on demand.

Thank you :) I keep getting told to get him on a schedule and use cooled boiled water between feeds but I'm so not comfortable with that!

is he keeping all the formula down, or is it coming back up?

Don't listen to them! Babies don't need water, and too much can be dangerous for them. Of he's hungry he's hungry I don't see why anyone should try and delay a hungry baby's feed, as adults if we're hungry, we eat. We don't look at the clock and say "oh it's xxx time, even though I'm hungry I must not eat until xx time!" Iykwim:flower:

same here went from 2 1/2 oz-3oz right up to 6oz a feed! settled down to 4/5oz now at 4 weeks :) and is average weight as of friday's weigh in so nothing to worry about. gaining 1lb per week :)

I FF on demand, the amount LO takes each bottle and over a 24 hr period changes all the time. If LO is full he won't take anymore. Don't give water though, it's not necessary until solids are started (unless there is a medicsl reason) I'm so sick of hearing from older generations just give him some water...

probably a growth spurt, I don't formula fed, she's on breastmilk but on rare occasion she will go on formula Aptamil. I know there's the hungry milk which contain more of this casein ,like a protein and fill the baby more but, there's no real research that it fills them to be full.

I know if you're baby is constipated, then boiled cooled water is fine if you give less than 1 oz, but shouldn't give any less than 6 months old.

Go on feed on demand and whoever told you to go on a schedule is not true, Is a newborn on a schedule? nah, they feed, poo, sleep whenever they want!

Keep your baby happy ;)

Sounds like a growth spurt. Their digestive system speeds up and they can take up to 50% more than normal in a 24 hour period. Just be careful that you're winding ok and that they haven't got tummy ache as they can mistake tummy ache with hunger and ask for food. However, if he' fine otherwise, just go with it Feeding on demand helps them and you in the long run - even if it does seem like all you're doing is feeding lol.

Who on earth told you that!!?!??

Babies, formula or breastfed, don't read bottle ounces or the back of a tin can. They eat when they want to eat, they don't eat when they don't want to eat. They are all different shapes and sizes, just like adults, and eat differently just like any other people.

Please don't tell me a "medical professional" told you that...... I would report them if it was.

No no, this is just people of the 'older generation' :dohh: although my HV asked a couple times if he feeds 4 hourly.. I wish!!

Darcey was like this, still is a starvo actually! I put her on hungry baby milk at 11 days old. She soon went to 3 hourly feeds

Earl was every 2.5hours on the dot (swear he had a watch!) Eddy was every 2.5-3. He was a bit more laid back but would eat more at a sitting so maybe that's it. Even now, Earl is a snacker and constantly hungry and Eddy just loves to eat at mealtimes and will eat the same amount of food on a plate as Earl!

Just follow your LOs lead. No-one but them knows what they need.
