I posted this in Teen Parenting but I want some suggestions please, well here is what happened today and why I binned my stupid highchair

:cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:
Ok I NEVER leave him unattended on a bed/sofa or the floor for that matter as I am super paranoid. The only places I feel 'safe' leaving him is on his jumperoo, playpen, strapped in his pram or highchair.

Well today I put Michael in his highchair and strapped him in (his is second hand off a friend and it only has waist straps) and pushed the tray in tight and locked it, I was making a bottle (boiling water in a pan as my kettle kickked the bucket today:dohh:) and making dinner. Then I heard a slap on the floor.

I turned to find my poor baby face down screaming on the floor
I ran over and lifted him, I was shaking and he was crying. After about two minutes he stopped and started pulling my hair and laughing, so I checked him over and apart for a red cheek he seems to be ok.

The only possible way he could of got out of it is my pulling one leg up and putting it into the other foot hole and wriggling down.

I rang OH going mad as I hated the highchair and I wanted a 5 point harness one but him and his mum were like 'be grateful it's fine' I am sooo annoyed that I never went with my gut and got him a safer chair I feel awful.

I get my student finance on Saturday so I'm going to check out some new highchairs opinions welcome :flower:

hi hun sorry to hearabout yur little boys accidentbut glad to hear hes ok we have a chicco polly magic it is great it goes all the way through to late toddler years too you can drop the height of the chair remove the tray and sit it up to the table its great :)

people really love that Ikea chair and its super cheap too! (don't know if it has a 5-point harness though)
You could also get a booster seat/feeding chair that straps onto a regular chair, they tend to cost less than the traditional high chairs.

The Polly one does look good. xx
Do Ikea deliver?

The ikea one only has a waist strap too, but there's a plastic bar between the legs, so LO couldn't wiggle down. I imagine an older child might wiggle free of it, but my wriggly 8 month old is ok in it so far :) and ikea deliver to certain postcodes dependent on where the nearest store is. You'd need to check their website :)

Hope michael is alright!

i have a cheapy one from argos and i think its brilliant ... the table part doesn't move but the foot rest moves up and down, its got a cup holder bit and kaya seems to like it.

this is the one i have https://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/3765861/Trail/searchtext>HIGHCHAIR.htm but mine is the bunny and chick version in pink :haha:

We have this one for Callum -

https://www.mothercare.com/dp/B001CBYMSW?ref=sr_11_1

Hes always liked sitting in it, the basket underneath can be a pain for getting food in though, but we like it as it recines and has different tray positions.

Hope your LO's ok now hun xxx

In laws bought us a mega expensive highchair from M and P. LO hated it and was constantly trying to squirm out and getting her feet stuck.

She sits calmly in the Ikea chair. It is easy to clean has a plastic bar between the legs and not easy to squirm in.

And doesnt cost a fortune!

It must have been awful when you heard your lO scream and saw him like that:hugs::hugs::hugs: Makes your gut turn!

Poor darling, glad he's ok :hugs: We've got the Chicco Polly Seventy highchair and I can't rate it enough, as above poster said, it's great, very sturdy and secure xx

I've got the Cosatto noodle high chair. It's comfy, and has a thick piece in the middle, so the baby can't slip down. Loads of height/recline positions too.
I love it!

Sorry about your LO s accident, hope he's ok now x

I got 1 on the asda baby event £25 and has the 5 point harness. I'm really happy with it and junior seems happy 2 sit in it and eat even play it folds down so I can pop it out thr way it dosnt take up much room xx

We have the mamas and papas prima pappa and love it. It has different height settings and reclines too if LO fancies a nap after lunch! Some people think that the padded ones are too difficult to clean but I've never had a problem with it. It's comfy and has a nice 5 point harness.

Fran has been in the ikea one a few times and I really don't like them. I just don't feel she is safe enough to move away from and the harness always comes loose (perhaps it's me not tightening it correctly but I don't see a different way to do it!)

I wonder if the shops will allow me to test my little monster in them :haha:
Thanks for the replies he is fine no bumps or nothing, can't say the same for the highchair:grr:

They should do, we put Louis in the Chicco highchair in Babies R Us, I wasn't buying anything I hadn't tried him in first :flower:

I don't see why not hun! Best way to make a sale is to let the customer try the goods :)

Glad to hear he is ok love, it must have been a shock!

Shock wasn't the word as I am not careless I mean I'm a safety freak when it comes to Michael but I knew I should or went with my gut, I deffo want one with plastic in between his legs.

I wanted to call an ambulance but doctor said he sounded fine and that hospital wan't necessary :haha:

:hugs:

Lily did the exact same thing with her rocker, only I was lucky enough to catch her as she fell. She hasn't been in it since.

We have the Ikea Antilop, and it's good. Your sidebar doesn't say where you are.... I have a Graco Teatime sitting in my garage; it's got a five point harness, but Ted slouched in it so I prefer the Antilop.... I'm in W Yorks xx

Glad your LO is ok xx

I have a 2nd hand fisher price linkadoos (or whatever it is) it has a big plastic bit in the middle so they cant slide out but also has 5 point harness.

My son once fell over in his push chair that my mum brought back off holiday, I said I wanted one with 5point harnes and it was only 3 point. He was meant to be having a nap and turned round and tried to climb up the back and it tipped. I attached reins to it after that but bought a new stroller when I had the money.

I had the chicco polly magic and hated the bloody thing
I'v got a booster seat now. It's like this https://www.mothercare.com/Travel-B...041&pf_rd_p=231490867&pf_rd_s=related-tab-3-5 but isn't padded. Don't think mothercare do mine anymore. I love it, it's so much easier and takes up so much less space that an actual highchair.
