*headdesk* So I went to the dentist today, and the dental assistant made me feel like a right bad mother >_< I went in because 3 of my 4 wisdom teeth are in, and one is REALLY hurting--it cracked right in half :S and my OB told me to go get it checked, etc.

So it turns out I also have pregnancy gingivitis, and the woman who told me wasn't very nice about it. She usually is, but went on and on about how when she was pregnant she knew better, and because she "actually took good care of my teeth" her kids never had cavities and such. :dohh: I mean, I went in because I thought it was a good idea to get them cleaned and checked out for me and Devlin, and she made me feel awful, kept telling me how mothers should know better and that I'm young and should be healthier than I am.

Once I talked to my dentist, he told me that some people are more prone to the bacteria that causes gingivitis and I am one of them and just have to do extra work to take care of them. Also he is sending me to an oral surgeon because he doesn't feel comfortable operating on someone with generalized anxiety disorder if he can't give valuim.
Has anyone else had any dental work, or has gingivitis? What can the oral surgeon give me besides local anesthetic anyway? o_O (OB said that any local is perfectly safe).

Honestly I don't have a clue, sorry!

I haven't had any dental work yet, but I do plan on it soon because one of my tooths are giving me hell. It hurts so bad! I take good care of my teeth yet I still have problems too, and never did before I was pregnant. Honestly it's just a pregnancy thing. The hormones and such. Not a whole lot you can do!

And as for that woman - what a b*tch. Honestly.... :coffee: Ignore ignorant people like her. Really sorry that I'm not much help. Just letting you know you're not the only young mother that "doesn't take good care of their teeth" :dohh:

Ah someone else with teeth problems! The only time I have ever had fillings is when I have been pregnant :haha:

Already this time I have two temporary fillings from wisdom teeth 'that didn't form properly' which need to be removed once baby is here. I have also had swollen gums and I am completely obsessive over my teeth. Even the dentist wouldn't blame me for the problems I have had.

I had local anaesthetic twice for the temporary fillings, however I will write what my dentist told me. She told me that it is usually safe however if they can avoid it they generally will. The safest time to have dental work is in the second trimester. They don't like doing it in the others trimesters and tend to try and put it off.
I don't know of any other options to local anaesthetic. As I said, my dentist is holding off until baby is here for work with temporary fillings, which used local.

Thank you! At least I'm not the only one :dohh: I have been trying to take good care of my teeth, it seems like I am fighting a losing battle though :( But I'm trying at least.

Yeah, she is usually so nice, too :/ I just want to give my lil guy the best chance I can :baby:

Thank you :) Yeah my OB said that if I need to get it done, to get it done NOW before I get into my third trimester (or in the first week of it).

Yeah that is quite similar to what I have been told. They are just worried about doing work during third tri because of premature labor. As close to second tri having the work done is best. Local anaesthetic should be fine. I fully researched it all, after having to have so much work done in such a small time frame.

I definately think you get more teeth problems when pregnant. Definately.
