My turn to rant...

I babysit a 3 and 5 year old during the week. All I charge her is $80 for both of them, which is way under what I should be charging. That's another story, but anyway. Their mother pays me by check. After my DH got off work he went and cashed the check like he does every Friday afternoon. Well, when he got to the bank the lady told him that he would have to take the check to the bank it was issued from. My DH was confused because we have always been able to cash the check at our bank and have had no issues. So, DH goes accross town to the bank the check was issued from and the bank teller, who knows my DH told him that she was sorry she could not cash the check because there are delinquent funds in that account and it has been locked.

So, here comes DH back to the house with a concerned look and his face and he tells me what happened. I got upset and mad right away.

Not only do I charge her way under the amount I should for childcare and put up with her spoiled rotten children, but now she is going to write me a check that is no good. WTF?

Sorry, I just had to rant. I'm a little pissed. The things I have had to deal with with her and this is what I have to deal with now. If it's not one thing it's another.

I have to play a bit of Devil's Advocate on this, just to be sure...

Are you sure she wrote you the check knowing the funds weren't there? Or are they having hard times at all?

When I babysat for a couple, it was their 2 schoolage children and one toddler. I charged £100/week...which is STILL under what she would pay for nursery or daycare...so I can appreciate that. But she always paid me cash.

Is there a reason why she writes checks instead of giving you cash in hand?

It sounds as though this arrangement is not working out for several reasons and you are starting to resent her and her children. Maybe you should tell her that it's no longer possible for you to look after them. That way if you wanted to, you could take on some other children and charge the full amount.
