i have read somewhere that its best to avoid nail varnish when pregnant is this true or can i atleast put some clear varnish on.

Please tell me this is not true! I get my nails painted every week! Eekk

i think it is true unfortunately, though i dont think a manicure now and then would hurt, though you get some nail polishes that are free from what is harmful

what about nail polish remover? I have some nail polish I'd like to get off my feet but am afraid of the chemicals that might be in the remover. Any suggestions?

ive not heard anything about the remover, but if you cant use the varnish you might not be able to use the remover.

think i have just answerd my own question

argggggghhhhhhhh!!!!! i just but some clear on this morning. Off to go take it off right now i would never have thought.

i never thought about it until i saw it in a magazine, sorry if i scared anyone i wasnt sure so thought id better ask xx

It's not very good to use nail polish during pregnancy. Years and years ago when I used to have acrylic nails my nail lady told me she would only use certain colours on pregnant women. Red nail polish was strictly forbidden. I guess due to the harsh dyes. Many nail polished have fermeldahide (sp?) in them, and that's very bad for you - pregnant or not.

I have a manicure on right now that is starting to chip and I am dying to take it off. :(

oh no, I have never heard of this! I've been painting my nails a couple of times a week

I'm sure i did whilst i was pregnant with my first LO too

this might help

I would never of thought that nail varnish could be dangerous. I dont paint my nail very often but i do like to get acrylic nails done. Are any of the chemical used to do that dangerous?

Oh noooooo! Thanks for posting this, I would have never known otherwise. I get a manicure every week coz I don't like it when my nails look scruffy. I guess its a small sacrifice to make for the wellbeing of the little one. Bare nails for eight months...Eeek

This sounds awful, but I've had some on since before my BFP!!! Obviously a lot has chipped off now (thankfully it's a nude colour!) Is it bad to have it on when it's already there or is it just putting it on fresh that's a prob? Not sure whether it will be worse to use remover or leave it on until it chips off?

i have acrylic nails done every 3 weeks ...they lady who does them was pegnant and works there so i cant see it being harmfull im goin to have mine done still x

I have been doing some research and have found a website which has nail varnish and remover which is safe to use in pregnancy!!

Looks like no one really agrees on whether it's safe or not. I would think, using common sense, unless you're repainting your nails every day you should be fine. What about women who work in nail salons? Do they go on maternity leave as soon as they get pregnant? I doubt it, so it's probably a very very tiny risk.
