Names and associations

Anyone else worried about the connotations certain names can bring? For instance I really like the name Ben but our surname is jones so I'm worried about his initials...
I also like Thomas but then he would be tom jones and someone's kinda cornered the market on that one!!
Any suggestions traditional first names that could work? I'm stuck

the thing with assosiations is you just can't avoid it. you and your lo will meet people from all walks of life and someone always knows someone whos great aunties uncle's goldfish had that name. I think Thomas is a great name. do you plan on nicknaming him Tom? even if you are Tom jones is not exactly massively popular these days are your sons generation is going to know nothing to little about him. x

Tell me about it, there's always an association although I think tom jones is too much. He is a legend!!

Thanks for the suggestions - I think Sam is a back up for us if I can't get over the bj and tom jones thing! I like Daniel too but have a cousin named that... We're not close or anything but wouldn't that be weird?!

no I don't think so especially if your not close . I wouldnt let that put me off

Sometimes it's unavoidable... But also, with the tom jones thing, how many of his friends will actually know who Tom jones is? I wouldn't worry too much about it.
Also... As scary as it is, things can always come up after you've named your child... My friend named her daughter Elsa and the frozen came out lol

Also, if you're not close with your cousin, Daniel is fine to use, I wouldn't think it's weird.

I would avoid the initials "BJ" - but I have no idea who "Tom Jones" is so I think Thomas Jones is cute! I also think Daniel is fine and LOVE the name Sam!

I would really only avoid it if it's a very well known, negative association. Like not naming your kid Adolf if your last name is Hitler. I think Tom Jones is fine, I met him when I was like 11 and had no idea who he was at the time. They're both very common names so it probably won't be assumed that you named your kid after him.

I've never met a Thomas who gets called Tom . Mine would scream if you tried!

We're from wales in the next town along from where he was born so I think most people around here know who he is lol

I know a guy named BJ, and I've never thought bad of those initials until now. I'll never see him the same!!!

I love Sam, it's our first choice for my mother Samantha.

Daniel is nice too.
