Hi all,

My husband and I are still in the thinking of baby names stage. I'm stuck on Braedan for a boy. But, if we have a boy, his middle name will be Andre, named after one of DH's best friends who has passed. And our last initial is D. So baby boy's name would be Braedan Andre D. Initials would be BAD. I love the name Braedan, can't make myself love any other name for a boy. But I really don't like the idea of setting him up with the initials BAD. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Does anyone think like me, and think that it would be setting him for failure? My mom says I'm being paranoid, so does my DH. I just would really like some thoughts on this .

Thanks everyone!

I think its a lovely name and personally don't think BAD is that bad! My SIL is having a boy due in 6days and they want to call him Sebastian Owen Day intials SOD! now thats what i call unfortunate!!

I don't think it's that horrible. Maybe it's just me, but I remember being in grade school and my classmates and I would always try to see if our initials spelled anything. Or if we married so-and-so what they would spell. I had a classmate with the last name Polski and at 10 years old decided we were going to get married and start a rock band called AMP because that would be my initials. :haha:

As long as it doesn't spell something super horrible, like AIDS (Amanda Imogen Dawson-Smith, who later in life dropped the Dawson due to her initials) I think they'll probably end up thinking it's cool.

I also think it's a lovely name choice, and wouldn't worry about those initials hun. I think initials that spell something offensive are the only ones which should be avoided x

I don't think there's anything wrong with that. If you're concerned, you could always add in another middle name so there's another initial before the D

No i agree with the other ladies :) I think you will be fine babe :) I really dont think your boys initials are going to interfere in the running of his life :) He will be amazing even with BAD :)

If you love the name & your OH and mom do too -- i say go for it! "BAD" isn't deal breaker initials, in my opinion!

no aslong as its not rude or anything, I wouldnt worry, may make him the cool dude in school lol

I wouldn't worry unless it spelt something offensive. I think its a lovely name x

If you really don't want his initials to spell BAD is there another name you could 'throw in there too? for our second child I really loved Poppy May but our surname begins with a T, didn't think PMT were the best initials for a girl, particularly when she hit puberty/teen years, so we added Rosa to make Poppy Rosa May T......, still love it now, but baby no. 2 was a boy!

Lol, my nephew's initials are MPH (Mason Paul H.) and his dad is in love with Nascar (which I personally think is weird), I can't help but think it was on purpose though. I think that the initials BAD arent well...bad .

its not that bad but if it was me id consider choosing another middle name as well xxxx

Thanks for all the thoughts and comments ladies. I thought about putting another name in there after Andre, but DH is against middle named, doesn't see a point in them. (he can be very frustrating with his beliefs with no reason for them, like this one). How bad would it be to just add a name in there since I'll be the one writing out the birth information and stuff? And just let him know I did it later? I don't think I could ever actually do it, but the thought has crossed my mind.

But I think I'm just gonna go with the name I fell in love with: Braedan Andre D.

Thanks ladies, it's really appreciated.

Your son will think it's cool :D My son's initials are FVL so we call him Fieval like the little mouse from "An American Tail" lol.

I wouldn't worry lol
when i was in school i was jealous as my initials didn't spell anything and my friends had thing like RAF and KAT lol

I don't think there's anything wrong with that. If you're concerned, you could always add in another middle name so there's another initial before the D

I agree but if you add something between the 'A' and the 'D' you will still have to think carefully to avoid spelling something else.

You don't want him to be BALD or BAND or BARD either. :flower:

we wanted Robyn Alexandra Taylor - RAT!!!! so we've changed the middle name to Eleanor... RET. I think that if Alexandra had some special meaning to us we would have kept it regardless.

I think your name is lovely!!!! :)
