Will you be using cloth or disposable?

I want to use cloth... But prob end up with some disposables for out and about etc.

can u not change the poll options and add one that says a mixture of both and another one that says undecided. i think im gonna use both x

I never thought I would be the "type" to use cloth diapers but that's the way OH and I are leaning at the moment.

Boo. Just tried... It won't let me! :(

I am going with disposable ones cause I know from being present at my friends when they changed their babies that the smell is something else! So having smelly nappies hanging round the house till I get round to washing them? I don't think so

I'm going with disposable, primarily because I live in an apartment without a washing machine and would end up spending nearly as much at a laundromat (and probably more since what I've read requires 2 washes for the cloth sort) than disposable would.

I plan on using both initially until I decide which is right for our little family.

Cloth.

We used them with Amy but used sposies at night and then hit a sizing snag where our cloth nappies didn't fit properly and got into a full time sposie habit that we never got out of.

This time I want to make better use of them, and will be adding more types of nappy to our stash so if the sizing issue happens again we can try a different type.

Disposables smell worse because the wee reacts with the chemicals in the nappy.

I thought it would be an awful smell using cloth but I can say hand on heart that the smell that came out of our nappy pail when I opened it to wash our nappies was nothing compared to the stench that rose out of the nappy wrapper when we came to empty it

Plus I used to stick a pant liner on the lid of the nappy pail and put a few drops of essential oil on it - worked a treat. I tried the same with the nappy wrapper but it still stunk to high heaven :haha:

I'm hoping we can use cloth about 80%-90% of the time. I have a feeling we'll use disposables when we're traveling just due to ease of use.

I'd like to say I'm doing the environmentally friendly thing and using cloth, but I know it would never last. It will be disposable for me.

Disposable all the way. It will cost me the same amount of money to wash them as it would to buy them likely.

I've been using cloth diapers since day 1 with my son and it's been very easy and affordable. I wouldn't think of doing it any other way

Disposables that have been pooed in smell A LOT worse than cloth that has been pooed in. You put cloth nappies into a dry pail )I line with a mesh bag) with a good fitting lid until you come to wash them and I promise you there are no smells at all. When it comes to wash time you chuck the whole mesh bag with all the nappies in into the wash. That's it. So easy.

Meanwhile, our neighbours who use disposables, their bins reek.

^edit. Apologies, I didn't see that another poster had already written the same pretty much as me in response to this post.

Have you done the cost on that? I did the cost of the electricity per wash (based on our rate per kW/hr from our supplier) and the cost of detergent (I do two washes a week of nappies). Then I included the cost of my nappies, my nappy bin, my liners, wet bag etc etc and it still worked out hundreds and hundreds of pounds cheaper than using disposables (and I calculated disposable price not on full price Pampers, but on store own brand). Plus you can use all the stuff again for the next baby with few outgoings and if you look after your nappies well you can sell on, on the pre-loved (second hand) market and get money back at the end.

I'm not trying to convince you, if you're happy with disposable then that's fine. I just think you're post is a bit misleading for others reading it as lots of people have "done the math" (as they say) and found that cloth works out a lot cheaper including washing.

OP: I'm not sure if you found it or not but if you head to the natural parenting section on here there are lots of people who use cloth and there is loads of info that you may find helpful (not just the threads but in the stickies too).

I have CDed my last 2, even though I have been lazy lately, and have not used a cloth diaper in ages it seems!! LOL! I will CD the next as well!

hm I only really looked into cloth diapers now and I had no idea that they came preformed and so easy to put on! Now that does put a different aspect on it! I was seeing myself having to fold, wrap and safety-pin it lol (well not quite but almost). These ones look quite easy to handle! :) Though I am not convinced that some of those wont leak hmm.
