so ive been full term (37weeks) for 2days and 29mins (not that im counting or anything :) )

we have all already heard of some ways to get labor goin and altho i wont be trying any until Thursday (19th) thought i would start to rack up a 'to do' list

Sex
Pinapple/Papaya
Walking
Squatting
Nipple stimulation
Acupressure points (hmm if u know where 2 find um lol)
Exercise ball (may have to get one)
O sperm
Spicy food
Evening Primrose Oil

thats the ones ive come across BUT have any of u been told/heard about or read any that are a little strange?
few ive seen are-
Blowing up balloons: the theory is that the build up of abdominal pressure encourages labour to start.
Get a weepy video and have a good cry.
and
Wear your best knickers (sod's law will ensure that your waters break in them).

so my question

what are the craziest ways uve heard on how to start labor?

I tried quite a few of those along with raspberry leaf tea, a bottle of castor oil and a clary sage oil bath! Labour started within 48 hrs!x

Castor oil is not recommended, can cause baby to go in distress. I've been told to not get a foot massage because certain points on your foot can trigger contractions. However once you are full term it sounds like a nice way to start labor off.

Castor oil i will be avoiding as it can give u the runs and i dont wanna poop everywhere lol

Oohh interesting.. i'm due a pedicure in couple of weeks.. BUT it's a "mum to be" package including a facial and back massage.. so i'm sure they know what they're doing haha

I didnt poo myself and baby was just fine, I had contractions the night I took it all, then waters went and hello baby a few hrs later.
I do honestly think he was ready to come though.

Hope all goes well if you try any.x

Firstly I don't believe that you can induce labour if your body is not ready to birth... So I don't seem the harm in trying anything really!

Clary sage essential oil
Nice glass of wine to help relax (I had two glasses of baileys the night I started with my daughter)
Acupuncture
There is some Italian recipe for eggplant which I have the recipe for that apparently works
Laughing lots
Oh - you said nipple stimulation but I've been told clitorol too!!!

Can't think of anymore to add..........

That made me laugh - I thought the opposite - wear your worst underwear, sod's law you'll end up in hospital and embarrassed about what you're wearing!!!! (before you get completely out of it on pain relief and couldn't care less!)

Back to the point, I know you already mentioned walking but i went for a long walk one evening, a week before DS was due, and I started with contractions that night. (Also seem to remember DTD with DH that night too.....) :haha:

This time, once I get a little bit nearer I'll be trying the same things and I've got my raspberry leaf tea ready in the cupboard too. :flower:

Pineapple apparently only works if you eat 6 of them as this is the number you would need to get enough of the 'active' ingredient, bromine (think thats what its called) to actually start labour. apparently it makes ur lips sore after a while lol. I really wanna try castor oil but have had conflicting information. Main reason I dont wanna try it is in case i poo myself lol when im in labour but lots have people said it didnt make them poo? any advice greatly appreciated :) xx

Lollipop, I ate 8 pineapples whilst in a bath of clary sage oil, following a curry and topped off with a small bottle of castor oil (taken with orange juice and a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda). I also scrubbed the bk of the cooker!

lol ye the pineapple thing sounds gd but i hate it lol thought on google-ing the subject it would come up with more crazy ways to kick start labor but nothing that ive thought omg that would be funny to try lol
as for baby only coming when s/he is ready i agree but im sooooooooo bored need sumthing to do lol

I googled acupuncture for labor and it pulled up youtube videos on different spots you can rub and hold.

WOW! Did they work??? :) x

you ate 8 entire pineapples? how were you not ill?

i dont believe any of the things in this thread actually work, apart from castor oil but that's because it gives u the runs and makes your womb contract. personally i dont like the thought of evacuating baby unless medically necessary, im not getting induced- just going to let her come when she's ready!

I've been told going for a brisk walk with one foot on the road and the other one on the side walk might work. Also side ways up and down the stairs.

I think this is the website you need :)

Yes it worked, well I had him, so it all worked or he was coming anyway! Xx

Castor oil is a laxative, which is why it makes you poo... It irritates your bowels, which can stimulate contractions. IMO it's not worth the risk (laxatives can cause baby to poo in the womb - though there's no solid proof of the connection, it makes sense!!) so that's something I'd never try.

Pineapple is meant to be good for afterpains too! I'm going to have a fresh one on hand as an after-birth snack, but I don't think I'm going to be pigging out on them to try and get labour started!!

Only thing that worked with DD was sex! DH and I had sex Saturday afternoon and by 4am Sunday morning I was in labour! I'm more willing to try a few things this time though, sooooo tired of being pregnant...

I totally agree the only reason sex worked for us was because DD was ready to come ANYWAY... I have been walking a bunch and having contractions (mild, odd ones) and cramps, but nothing has come of it... I think because this baby just isn't fully cooked yet! I'm getting impatient this pregnancy though, but not going to try anything OTT to get her out... If it's something 'gentle/natural' and it works then imo it's because she's ready!

I'm tired of it too. I'm now 3 cm dilated and always having period like cramps and baby is pushing down like crazy! Seems like the only thing not happening are the contractions!
