Am thinkin of changing doctors met a nurse at the surgery I am thinking of oin to and she is lovely, and is even seeing me tomorrow, to discuss things even though I am not registered there yet. I can also get an appointment within 2 days
My current doctors I have to wait at least 2 weeks for an appointment and won't do house calls to me cuz I technically live outside there catchment area even though they agreed to keep me on and have also lost 3 tests samples in the last 4 weeks, all the doctors and nurses are horrible except the 1 I normally see, also the midwife left there without sayin a thing and they havent ot a replacement yet.
The problem I am having is that I have been with my current doctor since birth, and I have a significant mental health history, which my current surgery know all about and will refer me straight back to the mental health team without question if the situation came up where I needed support from them (which probably won't happen, but just in case)

I don't know what to do, it would be easier to go to the new surgery cuz its literally 5 mins away from my house and always has plenty of parking, and my OH is registered there, but on the other hand am worried about leaving the doctor I've had since birth and maybe not having the support if I needed it even though the chances of me needing it are very slim

Hi becky, I think you should go to the 5 mins away one. When you join they will get all your records so will be able to give you the same level of care. x

Def go to the new one..as Hannaaisha said they will have your notes and they tend to take mental health issues seriously these days..When ur preg its not always practical to wait 2 weeks for an appointment.

Thankyou for your help, will go and talk to the nurse tomorrow about my concerns and see what she says

I think you should meet with the nurse and discuss all your worries and concerns with her and see how you feel afterwards... at the moment its important to have care that you feel comfortable with in terms of baby and birth but you do need to have a team there to support you if your mental health history comes into play. Good Luck and I hope you get it all worked out.

If you do decide to change docs, see if you can get a printout of your important records to keep because, when I changed docs, it took over 8 weeks for the records to get from one doc to another 200m away!!!

I was also worried about changing from the docs I had for years (and also the one my OH goes to) but it was the best move ever. I had years of mental health probs and I felt my old docs would never let me get over them and move on. I had hypnotherapy and haven't needed any meds for 5 years now with not even a wobble!

I agree with what others have said hun. It will be more practical after the baby is born to with it only being 5 mins away and you don't want to have to wait for an appointment if baby ever needs one. With regards to your medical history, it is all on a database and your new docs will be able to access it when you change over. The nurse sounds nice and i think it's a good idea to discuss your concerns with her. Good luck hun xx

Spoke to the nurse and she was lovely answered all my questions, she said if I ever needed it they have their own mental health worker there, which my now old surery didn't have,
I even got an appointment straight away to have new patient checks,
Got he number for the midwife attached to the surgery and spoke to her she is lively aswell, not like my old one who just up'd and left without saying a thing.
Was starting to have doubts this morning about changing, but after speaking to the nurse she answered all my concerns and I feel a lot happier now have changed

Thats great!! I changed dr's when I was about 20wks with my son and I was stressed about it too. I was 18 when I got PG and had alcohol poisoning a whopping one time when I was 15. The dr I was seeing at first who had been my OB for a few years told me she didn't think I was fit to be a mother because of my 'mental history' and asked me if I had considered "other options". I was furious as you can imagine. Just because I was young she thought she had a right to talk to me that way and every appt she made it very clear she did not approve of my pregnancy. She even had said that well maybe if im lucky the baby would be a good thing and it would save me and turn my life around. She was nuts & a bitch so I went to my 20wk ultrasound(couldn't miss that one!!!:haha:) then never went back and asked for my records. It worked out much better that i had left. Good Luck with your new Dr's and I hope you get better treatment there :hugs:
