Scarlett is almost 8 months and has always been a poor eater but the HV are starting to get concerned at her slow weight gain. I have been trying Traditional weaning but she HATES any puree or mash (bought or made) except 2! All she actually likes (open her mouth for) is fromage frais. Today I tried her with finger foods (and spoon fed her the yogurt).

Today she had:

2 Little Stars Fromage Frais
21 oz milk
2/3 small tin banana delight
2 biscuits (Ella's kitchen)
1 1/2 Organix Sweetcorn Rings
About 1/4 wholemeal roll
12 heaped tsp Greek Yogurt (HV said to try that)

Does that sound enough for an 8 month old? I need her to gain before her 8 month check  This isn't helping my depression. I just don't know what I'm going to do, I've tried everything else.

That doesn't sound too bad to me. I understood it that formula is more calorific than food, and the best foods for weight gain are full fat dairy products - cheese, milk, butter, cream and yoghurt. So if she likes these try using them to bulk up the calories in whatever she's having.

I don't know if you're giving eggs yet, but my LO has been fussy on and off, but scrambled egg with cheese, butter and milk goes down very well and scores well for weight gain. My HV also suggested using formula to make foods like custard (I use birds powder and reduce the sugar), blancmange etc.

We found the best mix for us is to do finger foods for one meal a day, usually a sandwich with butter and dairylea or similar, organix crisps, halved cherry tomatoes. Then in the afternoon TW style foods - one of his other faves is an AK recipe for carrot, tomato and cheese pasta sauce. Just try to find ways to add calories to whatever you're making!

It does sound enough - I think just a bit more variety as you say.

Have you tried pasta -my Anna loves macaroni and I make it really cheesy for her too!

I use spaghetti and when its cooked chop into little bits - I give her it like we would have pasta not like the 'pasta' jars you buy that have almost no pasta in it!

What about a cereal first thing in the morning (rather than 2 servings of yoghurt a day) weetabix or readybrek or the Hipp 4cereals with apple&banana is good. and I keep it really thick not watery:flower:

You could try wht I gve Joshua for brekkie... porridge with a youghurt mixed in, made with full fat goats milk and a scoop of formula... plus added fresh fruitbutshe migt not like that.... I ave tried it and it mostl tastes of the fromage frais so she might eat it! Defo calorific! :D
