So I have popped over from 3rd tri for some advice. I think I have clued myself up with all the pregnancy and birth books so now want to get prepared for little one and her first year. I am a first time Mum so have NO clue. Also I want to breastfeed exclusively so a book with help on this would be excellent too

Also if there are any books for hubby (or a book that we can both read) that would be great!

Thanks ladies! :hugs:

I thought a really good one was this one. But if I'm honest. KEEP AWAY form most of them as they'll stress you out! :haha:

I would just recommend you get an app if you have an iphone or android type which allows you to keep track of when you last fed you baby and when she last slept and for how long. If you don't have a fancy phone (like I didn't) then try keeping a sheet of paper with a pencil attached in every room.

Unless you want to enforce a routine yourself but in my opinion babies need to sleep a certain number of hours and keeping track will help you see when a pattern develops. :flower:

Red poppy is there a particular app u have used or what would u search under to find that type of app it sounds like an app I would be interested in.

when LO was born my mum bought me an awesome book, its really useful https://www.amazon.co.uk/Babycare-Week-First-Six-Months/dp/0007240201
its for dads too, every weeks section has a bit specifically written for dads too.

Oh no! I don't want to be stressed lol Just more prepared :haha:

I do have an android so will have a look for an app thanks for that tip hun.

I am hoping she will settle in her own routine too! :coffee:

Thank you :hugs:

I just searched for 'newborn feeding sleeping' and got 3 apps (2 paid and 1 free)

The free one is called Baby ESP Trial - just downloading now though so it might not be any good

Hi! IMO with baby books- you should look for one that best suits your parenting style, eg. with me, i am into attachment parenting which involves breastfeeding, co-sleeping, baby wearing etc, and the best book i found is The Baby Book by Dr. Sears. He dedicates whole chapters to BFing etc. Having said that, i also firmly believe in being in tune with your maternal instinct, and parent in line with it. x

Can I just point something out without being flamed? You can read all the books you feel you need too but your baby won't have read any of them. I think its great you want to get prepared but just be mindful that all babies are different and what the books say won't necessarily work for you

I won't flame you :winkwink:

I do hope my natural instinct will kick in... but I still worry as I am a first timer that I won't know what to do in certain situations and that I can't be calling the midwife/health visitor every 5 mins  I just think a book would be useful for the basics and as I said in my op, particularly with breast feeding

why not get them out of the library? I took every book possible out of the library on pregnancy and baby development - I've got 3 under the table right now!!!!

I use the app Total Baby, it cost 3.99 but it's worth every penny, IMO.

I bought a load of baby books when I was pregnant but never got around to reading them then.
So I'd say if you are not planning on reading them before the baby is here, don't bother getting any, you just won't have the time to read them after.

:dohh: I never even considered that! Thanks so much I will do that for sure. Been meaning to join my local library (it's like a 3 min walk) for the last year :haha:

Thank you! :hugs:

Thanks for the replies ladies, think I will go down the library as suggested rather than buying any books. I will then be able to read what is relevant to me but I will 100% bear in mond your comments about all babies being different :flower:

the librbay is good for all baby books, you will find a lot of contraiction in books (and on the net for that matter) so its best to get a varied opinion on lots of things :flower:

this one for breastfeeding. we really struggled (sadly wasn't able to, but for complex reasons)... a friend sent it to me when i was struggling & so much in there made so much sense.
xx

We found the baby whisperer very useful. It is about setting a routine (albeit more baby led than some others) but even it you ignore that it still explains and points out some really useful stuff. Hubby and I both found it an easy read too. Very interesting to compare it to the much more strict book we were bought by a different author that I don't think I'm allowed to mention on here...(although that book has lots of pictures and helped us learn how to swaddle).

Happy reading.

EDIT: Just remembered that we found the section on how to tell why baby's crying and how to resolve it very helpful in the baby whisperer.

Thanks for this :flower:

Can I ask where the furry baby suit is from in your avatar? I LOVE it and your LO looks so warm and cosy. My due date is January so looking for a warm snowsuit for her :)

Thank you hun  Must be a contraversial book if your not allowed to name the book

Sorry! I didn't have a fancy phone when I had my LO and I saw another mama at a sling meet with an iphone who had the app. I'm sure if you google "baby app" or "baby schedule app" then you might get it?

I think the author causes too much heated debate on here, so the admin team don't like it. Initials are GF, so you might be able to work out who I mean.

It's useful to read different books to get different views on parenting styles (like I think another poster mentioned). You might discover that what you thought you would do changes when LO arrives. :flower:
