My LB is 10 weeks old, he has been really unsettled since birth really, and will cry and cry and cry, arch his back, kick his feet and push up, turns away from milk, has extremely bad gas, the list is endless, anyway first we was told possible milk intolerance, then they changed their minds and just said "colic" then they said silent reflux, he has tried comfort milk, infacol, gripe water, coleif, baby gaviscon etc these remedies seem to help for a week or so then he back tracks to screaming and being unsettled for ages, there is no pattern to it at all, dont really know what is wrong. Doctors want to try neocate next, I just want some answers. They dismissed milk intolerance because he was taking his bottles eventually, and gaining weight well. But past few days he has gone down hill, he just wont settle at all, keeps getting an on/off rash on his face, he has diarreha(sp?) 6-7times a day, mucusy, but the gaviscon has firmed it up abit, it all sounds like an intolerance EXCEPT the weight gain! Well he has gone right off his bottles, normally he would take 6oz, the past 3 bottles he will only take 3oz, last week he only gained 6oz(which for him isnt normal, he usually gains 1Lb.) Any advice? Any ideas? Will neocate help?

Hi my baby was put on neocate about a month ago he was the same as you described since birth we tried everything but after about a week the neocate worked and he is so much happier in the day now no more screaming. However he also has silent reflux as they often have milk intolerance and reflux and this isn't sorted yet so he is still awake at night. He has always put on weight well and always eventually drank all his milk so they can still have an allergy. Your lucky your doctor is putting you straight on neocate as this is really expensive they usually make you try other formulas first. It's definitely worth a try but remember it can take a while to work. Hope it works for you it's so nice to see them happy when they have been so unsettled for so long!

Hi hun, this is why I had the problem getting calebs milk allergy diagnosed because the doctor said he's a chubby baby so it must be colic / reflux etc. I actually posted on here myself asking the same question. Just because a baby is gaining weight well does not mean they do not have an allergy. Caleb would fuss over his milk but eventually would finish his bottle. As time went on it did get to the point where like your Lo he would only take 2oz, this was at his worst and luckily he was diagnosed within a few days of this. Needless to say if it continued like this he probably would've struggled to put on weight. Caleb is on neocate now and he is such a happy baby :) rash on face disappeared completely within 2 days, poop normal etc. I think the damage caused inside his belly will take longer to heal. If your Lo has a milk allergy neocate should def help as unlike some allergy milks it has no milk protein in it whatsoever x
