Ok so we have just moved to a 4 bed as an early preperation for starting our family, i have between 4 months and 16months to wait before we even start TTC, but the house move has made me nest-y (if thats even a word) - i want to start making our house perfect for baby. im feeling quite content at the moment but i doubt it will last so i need to occupy myself to keep the broodness at bay and justify the wait to myself (i find it had to see money as a good justification although its the real reason)

We cant decorate the 'babys room' yet as we dont want our families (who come to stay about 3-4 times a year) to know that we are planning - and thats 1 set too far in planning form DH but is there any little things i can do to a, take my mind off the wait and super prepare (im a super organised person so i imagine that by my first scan il have the babys first 18 years planned!)

im looking for ideas of nesting activity - i think i might learn to knit so i can make stuff, i want to make some curtains, but any other ideas? - also if anyone knows of any how-to-knit books that can teach someone with NO idea that would be great, (i already have dvds in alphabetical order, cds by genre and finances in a spreedsheet so im a bit OCD il admit!)

Hi huh,
Congrats on your new house. It's very exciting being in the place where you know you'll be bringing your LO's home from the hospital!

I can't recommend books, but I learned to knit again but watching a few videos on youtube. Get yourself a very basic pattern for a scarf or blanket (there are loads online for free) and then watch one of the step-by-step videos. The basic stitches are simple and it's all about the practice!

woo hoo.... you are me all over!!!

I'm currently trying to teach myself to knit also... again just from youtube.. I haven't' even progressed to a simple pattern yet, I'm just practicing knit stitch and pearl stitch.... One of my friends lent me wool and needles, but I think hers are a bit advanced for me, so I'm saving up to buy larger size wooden needles and thicker wool, so hopefully I will do better with that x

i went into john lewis yesterday and htey have hundereds of needles and wools - i had no idea what i wanted so i didny buy anything :S no idea where to start

Hi I adore knitting! I started knitting at a very young age as my mum taught me. I started on very thick needles and just knitted a simple scarf. Just knitting not even purling. Wool will say on the packet what sized needles it is to be used with so you can check that your needle and wool are matched in size. At the end of knitting that my fingers knew how to knit without me looking at them. Then I started purling, I knitted another scarf with knit one row, perl one row. By the end of that knitting and purling was easy to do for me. I took a break from knitting for a long time and didn't progress any further till I decided I wanted to make a toy, I made this: https://blogs.agu.org/georneys/files/2011/12/KnittedDino1_D-960x1024.jpg from a pattern. That was the first time I learnt to do increasing and decreasing on a row. It was a pretty basic toy to make but I learnt a lot of new knitting techniques by making it. After that my boyfriend got me this amazing book: https://www.amazon.com/Amigurumi-Knits-Patterns-Cute-Mini/dp/1589234359 I have currently knitted a loch ness monster: https://kathrynivy.com/uploads/images/blog/loch_ness1.jpg a spider: https://knittingisawesome.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/purple-knitted-spider1.jpg and an ant: https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-G5mwEkTSKsA/T_84kdc_9lI/AAAAAAAABLQ/kTPljcheM6E/s640/DSC_0049.JPG I am currently working on a preying mantis: https://lifelogoflanae.files.wordpress.com/2012/10/sam_3607.jpg

My point is, once I had the basic knit and perl down I got adventurous and I learnt as I knitted. During my recent knits half way through a pattern I've had to learn a new technique and I've messed it up a dozen times before getting it right. The good thing with knitting is every time you mess up you can just unravel the mess and start again. For each toy I've knitted I probably knitted it twice if you count the times I knitted and then unraveled to start again. As someone else said it just takes practice and patience (which I sometimes lack, my boyfriend said I get too angry sometimes when I knit!). Good luck :flower:

Btw none of the linked pictures are my work, I don't know how to link multiple pictures to posts on this site so I just googled the knits!
