Hi Ladies! I'm new on here and I'm glad to see such great support for one another!! I have a 5yo boy and about 9 months ago I found out that I was 12wks pregnant. When I found out that I was pregnant I just didn't feel right, I could sense something was wrong. We went to hear the hb and nothing. I ended up having a mmc and the baby stopped growing at 8 weeks. I just found out that I am pregnant again on Easter just a few days ago and I don't have the thought of somethings wrong this time which is great but I'm still a little scared because of last time. We are going to the first doctor appointment next Thursday. Does anyone know the chances of a healthy pregnancy this time?

Hi Kelli! Congratulations! When are you due? I am due dec 16. I had something similar happen. My husband and I never really "connected" to the pregnancy and felt like something was wrong. My 10wk ultrasound revealed that the baby stopped growing at 8 1/2. I had a d&c and tested the baby. He had downs syndrome. I'm not sure what the normal chances are for miscarriage a second time, but I am 1 in 100 for another trisomy baby. I think it is very unlikely you would have another. Have you had your progesterone checked? In my miscarriage books, I read that they usually happen due to chromosomal mutation or low progesterone. I had mine checked and I was indeed low! I took supplements in order to conceive with this one. Might be worth peace of mind to check them. But is it was due to chromosome, I think it is really unlikely it would happen again.

Thank you Sciencegal. From my calculations my due date is December 14-22 2012 but then again I have not been to a dr appt yet. My menstrual cycles are every 35 days. My doctor said I lost the last baby due to chromosomal abnormalities. My fingers are crossed that all will be good this time. Like I said, I dont have the negative feelings with this pregnancy like I did with the last. I will definitely talk to my doctor about the progesterone. I have been trying to pay attention to any and all little cues. So far so good..fingers crossed. Just to be on the safe side we have decided not to tell anyone until we find out the gender of the baby. Good luck to you! Our pregnancies are close together it sounds like :)

We are doing the same! we haven't even told family (except my mom). it is really hard for me not to share the news. last time we made the announcement a few days before the loss. devastating. i wish you the best of luck!

Sciencegal do you know of any symptoms that low progesterone in pregnancy presents? I had several cycles with a very short LP and I was worried that low progesterone could be the culprit. Now we are pregnant but I don't have a doctors appointment until this Friday and I am worried about sustaining the pregnancy as our last loss happened between 5 and 6 weeks :(

I'm not sure what the symptoms are during pregnancy, but low progesterone has definitely been linked to luteal phase defect. Here is a collection of low progesterone stories - https://lowprogesteroneinpregnancy.com/subpage.html

Progesterone is specifically important in fertility and the first trimester. You are okay as soon as the placenta takes over. I have low progesterone, in general. You can google for a complete list of symptoms. I have migraines, vertigo, low libido, irregular menstrual cycle, lack of concentration, etc. I tried out hormone replacement therapy about a year ago and it fixed EVERYTHING. Miracle! Anyway, I am a firm believer.

The one criticism is that progesterone supplements might help you hold on to a baby longer that has a mutation. Some doctors believe it will delay the miscarriage. For me, being able to get pregnant and have a shot was more important than the alternative. My doctor tested progesterone levels every cycle and they were always too low to sustain a pregnancy. I finally succeeded with supplements.

I would request a blood test if you suspect progesterone - very easy to do and could put your mind at ease. Your level should be at least 10 (15 if you took clomid, etc). maybe you could call and get it done before Friday so that you can discuss at the appt? Unfortunately, many doctors don't check until you've had multiple m/c's OR have fertility issues. Your short lp makes you a prime candidate.

Good luck! Let me know if you figure it out.

Hi ladies,
We just went to the doctor today and im 5+6 and have the first scan next Thursday (were so excited) I found out that my due date is Dec 15th so I was off by a day!! Just thought I would update. If anyone knows the answer to this that would be good...so here goes: I love alfredo pasta, last night I made it for dinner and it smelled and tasted like cheesy scrambled eggs (eww I hate eggs) are food aversions a sign of a strong pregnancy?

I think food aversions are a result of changing hormones - meaning your body is working hard to take care of baby! :-). From my experience, my body didn't notice my chromosomal miscarriage and I still had the symptoms. However, it does mean that your body is doing what it is supposed to do. I think it is a great sign! I am having them now, too. With my first pregnancy, I developed a string aversion to squash (which I loved). Sadly, I've never been able to eat it since. Odd... But all of my other aversions disappeared after baby (chicken, pizza, etc).

So excited for your scan! Let us know how it goes. Mine is may 1st.

Hi girls,

Congratulations on your pregnancies!! :)

We are pregnant (almost 6 weeks) after a miscarriage in January.

My question is my drs aren't the best but do you what the norm is? I haven't made an appt yet but could I do you think have an earlier than at 12 weeks? I know my husband would say just wait but if would put my mind at rest a bit, although am trying to relax and enjoy the pregnancy as much as possible.

Thanks girls xxx

Congratulations to you!! And I am very sorry about your loss... I think it depends on where you live and your doctor. Most doctors here won't even see you until your 10th week. I am an infertility patient so they monitor everything very closely in the first 12 weeks. My first ultrasound is in about 10 days. If you are really anxious, I think you should call and request an early ultrasound. Tell them about your miscarriage and that you are really afraid it might happen again (maybe even fib a little). Some will see you earlier if you've had a previous mc - it puts you in a slightly higher risk category.

Good luck! I know 6 wks will feel like forever.

Thank you very much Sciencegal! :)

Our drs aren't brilliant and if I'm honest I any imagine it being before 10 weeks.

I have the opportunity of a dr's appointment at 9.20 in the morning. My husband said we may as well wait until we are back from Ireland which would be wed 2nd may and I think he would rather wait?

I really don't know what to do?? If we waited I'd be about 7 to 8 weeks as opposed to 5 to 6 so I guess not much difference really.

Xxx

Yeah... probably not much of a difference... If you waited until 7 to 8 weeks and they did an ultrasound, you would be able to see the heartbeat! Anything around 5 or 6 is still a little on the early side. You may not see a heartbeat (because it is too early) and then spend the next 2 weeks stressing until your next appointment! Or at least, that's what I would do. :-) The benefit of going now is that they could test your blood (progesterone, hcg) if you are worried about anything.

That is a very good point and is just what I would do!! Lol.....worry more after being to the Doctors!

I think I'll wait until I come back and that way we are that bit nearer the 12 week mark so will hopefully see the midwife sooner.

It always feels like such a long wait at the beginning doesnt it xxxxxxx
