Hello all,
I am 30 and have been trying to conceive for 18 months now. At first not very seriously, I just happened to come off the pill to see what would happen. Then 18 months and many, many, many ovulation tests later, still no joy.
My younger sister had a baby in August last year and although I love him to bits, looking at him makes my heart bleed. He was conceived around the time I came off the pill...
My friend suggested this site after 2 miscarriages, saying it helped her keep sane. I guess I need this to keep me sane too!
I have had several tests done and today, after much persuading, my partner's also handed in a semen analysis. I'm trying to contemplate any possibility but at the moment I really don't know what to think to make me feel better.

The fact that we've been unable to conceive is causing me so much sadness I don't know what else to do. On top of everything, I was referred to a gynae by my GP inly to have 6 appointments cancelled over 3 months. Every time I contact the gynae now it's taking them 9 to 11 weeks to arrange appointments...

Anyway, as I said, not really sure what to expect or even what to hope for when the results for my partner's test come through. If they are normal, will nobody do anything else? Is that it?

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks for reading this

Hi Hippiehappy!

I'm sorry to hear about your situation but you will definitely find loads of help and advise here! What ever comes back in your test results i'm sure they will try to help you in some way. It could be so many different things that could be affecting your chances of conception so until the test results come back its really hard to say what they will actually do.

Doctors can be so rubbish sometimes, we've had the same thing with our doctor cancelling on us over and over again and it can be so frustrating! You just need to hang in there because things will start happening for you.

We were trying for 2 years before we had tests done. The first lot were just standard blood tests which come back showing that maybe i had PCOS. So then the next time they done an internal scan and a semen test. They confirmed it was PCOS and that dh's sperm was fine so they put me on drugs to try and help. The drugs haven't worked so i'm going for a lap & dye (where they check the tubes) on Monday so we'll see what comes of that. Anyway, what i'm trying to say is that there are loads of different tests etc that can be done and there are also options for whatever they might find.

Let us know what happens with your test results. Good luck!

Hello Milliemoo, thanks for your post, sometimes you just need a bit of cheering up and to hear a story silat to yours... Thanks again and good luck to you too xx

hey there! as milliemoo said, the tests or treatments that they suggest for you will depend on the outcome of tests but rest assured that you will be offered something *hugs*

I just wanted to comment on your waiting for your initial appointment. I am sure the nhs guidelines say that you have to be seen within 18 weeks of your referral. i am not sure how this works when you make appointments that get cancelled but it may be worth checking out and making a bit of a fuss to be seen sooner, you should not be made to wait that long (18 weeks is already an eternity when you're ttc!!)

my aunt had her tubes tied AND burned....the chances of being pregnant is 1% after this procedure (she never wanted kids again).......well she did get pregnant and had a baby, hope that 1% chance that turned into a baby cheers you up! :hugs::hugs::hugs::hugs::hugs:

Parter had SA done last week, gets a letter Saturday asking him to repeat it. Rings GP today to see why they say he's got no sperm! Takes another sample to the hospital asks again why he's got to repeat it they said because the other one was void.
What does that even mean? Which is the case, no sperm or void test?
Sorry about the rant, but the NHS have done it again they seem to get a kick out of making my life hell!!
Anyway test's been repeated now, fingers crossed!
