I have really irregular cycles and don't know when I actually ovulate. I've been using OPKs for a few months now, and still no positive tests. So I started tracking BBT along with OPKs and still can't get it right.

Last cycle, my BBT dropped on cd16, then LH surge was detected on cd19 and temperature spike. Lots of BD during those days, but I still got AF.

This cycle, BBT dropped on cd19, no LH surge detected yet and no temp spike. Should we try right NOW?

HELP!

I would BD at least every other day especially during the middle of the month when O day may occur!

Welcome to BNB :flow: If you didn't catch your surge it's possible you didn't ovulate and it could just be a random temp rise. If it stays up high then you ovulated. Are you temping at the same time every morning as soon as you wake up with a BBT? Can you link your chart? Lots of sticky baby dust :hugs: xx

It's also possible to test and miss your LH surge... I've had it happen! Only a clear, sustained temperature shift will let you know that you ovulated for sure. Even a positive OPK isn't always going to let you know if you're ovulating or not. (I have had months where I've had multiple LH surges (each a few days apart) before I finally ovulate

If you're getting completely confused about whether you're fertile or not, I'd almost suggest tossing out the OPK's for a couple months and really focus on checking your cervical position and cervical mucous everyday. If you chart those for a couple months along with your BBT, you may start to see a pattern that will let you know what is really going on in there. :winkwink:

And, like kel3639 said, your best bet at getting your :BFP: is making sure you BD at least every other day- especially when there's a chance you might be fertile. And if you're not sure yet when that is, just start when you period ends and don't stop until you've had a sustained (3 days at least) shift in your BBT.

I don't know what you're using to chart, but Fertility Friend has been great for me. (See my chart link in my signature.) And it will let you know when you have ovulated. :) Feel free to let me know if you have any questions!

Thanks for all your advice. I started using Fertility Friend. I'm new to charting my BBT so I don't know how to link my chart. But here's a pic of what is going on with my cycle. We've tried to BD after the dip, every day or every other day, but no success. I've read that the seesaw look of my chart might indicate hormone imbalance??BBT charting.jpg

Your august chart looks great, but you're right- September is a little difficult to read. Are you making sure to temp at the exact same time every day?

Very wild charts can indicate a hormonal issue- so if you are concerned about that, you can always get your levels checked at the doctor. But, honestly, your charts are much more clear than many I have seen. I'd wait a month or two to take your charts to a doctor. (They'll want to see more than 2 charts, anywway.)

As for BD'ing: BBT charting is more to let you know after the fact that you have O'd. The "dip" is actually the day that you O. So you need to be BD'ing before the dip. (This is whereOPKs, Cervical Position, and Cervical Mucus checks come in handy.) For the highest chance of getting pregnant, many women choose to have sex every other day throughout the first half of their cycle, and if they sense O is coming, they BD every day until O has definitely occurred. (After 3 days of sustained, elevated temps.)

Fertility Friend recommends BD'ing the 3 days leading up to O, on O (the day you may get the temp dip), and the day after O.
