Hi Everyone

I'm new to the site and wanted to introduce myself. Dont know all the lingo yet, so bear with me. lol. DH & I have been TTC since June 2008 - almost 3 & a half years now!! We're attending Monklands Hospital in Airdrie but are receiving no help for now as they keep sending me away saying I need to lose more weight. I've lost 2 stones since we started TTC, and got myself to a 35 BMI, but it appears that's still not enough for them! Grrrr!!! Our history is: tried for one year on our own, then went to GP, who ran blood & semen tests. DH has antibodies in sperm which reduce motility - but been told it's not to a level that they would be concerned about. My blood tests are all ok. Started attending Monklands Hospital in Oct 2009 and in those 2 years all they have done is more blood and semen tests - telling us no new info - and an internal ultrasound on me - which found nothing - although she did like to point out that my weight was probably effecting the picture!!!

Anyway - they kept telling me to get to BMI 35 so they could start treatment - which I did in April of this year - only to be told they actually now want me at BMI 32 to do a laparoscopy!! Aaaarrrrrgggghh!!! So since April I have been so down and upset and been comfort eating - that my weight is starting to creep back up. I just dont feel like we're moving forward and I turn 34 next month which isnt helping the situation. I was just wondering if there's anyone else in the same boat as me - that the Docs won't help till we've lost more weight????? Also, i'm considering getting a loan to have the laparoscopy carried out privately - does anyone know if the NHS would take offence to this? I just thought they dont seem to have an issue with doing it at my current weight - so this could speed things up a bit for me. Then just pass the results to my NHS Doc. What do you think??????

Thanks x x x x

Hi Greenbob Welcome
Dont get me started with monklands!!!

So sorry to hear about the hard time your having. Its ridiculous you need to consider going private. Have you looked at prices etc for private surgery? I also find it hard to lose weight the stress of lttc makes it so easy to comfort eat, which makes me feel guilty as what better reason is their to lose weight if it helps me get my forever baby!! Its a vicious circle

What consultant are you under at Monklands x

Hi. I'm under DR Jain. Ive seen a few people talking about her on here and it sounds like i'm not the only one who finds her a bit cold!!! I called BMI Healthcare and to get the laparoscopy done privately at Ross Hall it's going to be over £3000!! But i'm sooooo desperate that it'll be worth it to move things along a bit. I just keep thinking that the sooner I know if there's a problem inside me, then the sooner we can tackle it or come to terms with it! x

Im under the lovely Dr Jain also (although only seen her once since being referred in dec last year)

It is alot of money but on the +side even if their is no problems found it can leave you more fertile. I was due to have a lap dye in August but was cancelled due to natural bfp which ended in miscarriage:nope: Now need to wait until 21st of nov just to see if she will still do procedure. find all this waiting absolutely horrific. After lap and dye will defo be looking at private IVF (If i can egg share) x
