Newbie - bleeding help please

Hi, sorry i'm not really up with the lingo on these boards but i'd really appreciate some advice. Sorry if this is too much detail!

My bf and I have been trying to conceive for 16mths naturally. I am usually regular, 35 days like clockwork but this month my period came 1 week early on day 28. I'll list below what's happened.

21st mar - day 1 period
3rd apr O
18th apr - heavy bleeding (not normal for me, my periods are usually light and last for around 2 days)
19th apr - still bleeding quite heavy
20th apr - NOTHING! not even spots
21st apr - nothing all day and then around 8pm, lots of really red blood (unlike period blood). went to bed with tampon
22nd apr - NOTHING! not even spots

I spoke to my doctor but he dismissed it as anything (Iwas worried about a miscarriage or something) he said probably just my period.

I'm so confused as I have been getting headaches and my veins on back of my hands were really weirdly bright blue last week which i've seen on other boards as signs. Should i test anyway?

didnt want to read and run - dont know what is happening but i would test and see what the outcome is
