Hi everyone. This is my first post. I've read dozens of threads which have answered so many questions for me (thank you all), but now I have one that I can't seem to find an exact answer to...

DH and I have been ttc since May of this year. We finally got a very very faint bfp on 10/21. I went to see the ob that week and since we had been using opk's, concluded that I was just shy of 4 weeks. I went in for blood hCG tests on 10/22 and 10/24 and just had another one on 11/7 (14 days since previous test). The levels were about 50 mIU/ml on 10/24 and 700 mIU/ml on 11/7. I was scheduled to go in for my first u/s on Monday but ob called me yesterday saying because I was only at 700 on Wednesday, she wants me to take another one since its a bit lower than what she expected. I was sort of in shock at the time so didn't ask the appropriate questions. So thought I might ask them here since I have been a wreck since the phone call.

Is 700 an awfully low number or just somewhat low? And should I be worried about miscarrying? First positive opk was 10/9 so I had just finished week 6 when I got the 700 mIU/ml reading.

All input is much appreciated and I apologize if I'm in the wrong forum.

Hey Hun please try not to worry, not good for you or little one. I know they like your hcg during pregnancy to double every 48 hrs, could be a slow starter? I've heard of plenty of women having not great hcg numbers at the start of their pregnancy and went on to have a wonderful healthy pregnancy. Also at 700 miu they wouldn't be able to see anything in your uterus at all, they couldn't see anything in mine at over 3000! Good luck with your next bloods appointment :hugs: x
Maybe this link will help xxx

hey hun hcg levels can vary massively but no matter the number they should double every 48-72 hours.

my levels were 375 at 4 weeks then 3 days later 1300 then 2 days later 3100.

your doctor is probably just concerned as your numbers are slightly shy of doubling every 3 days... there could be several causes for this and not all end badly... I recommend you have a chat to them about it but I wad told with levels under 1000 you won't be able to see anything on ultrasound.

at 6 weeks mt levels were in the thousands and you should be able to see bubs and a sack and we saw a heart beat... maybe your earlier than they thought?

hope this helps.

Thank you chicky160 and iwantabub :) I know I should stay positive and not stress. I just feel certain about how far along I am and read all these sites which say I should be at 1000 at the very minimum. I will try to keep my head up and hope for the best when results come in on Monday. Thank you for your well wishes and encouragement :)

huni I was dead set that I was 5 weeks coz I thought I knew spot on when conception happened... my doc explained it like this....

from conception to implantation is not always 7-10 days and if doctors can't pin point it then we sure as hell can't lol. as much as we think we can read and figure things out... we don't always know the answer....

I was sure I was 5.5 weeks when I had pain and got admitted for a scan... sure enough saw nothing... turns out I was like 4 weeks ... and I thought I monitored sex dead on... sperm can live upto 3 days inside a women ... that mixed with implantation... that's a week right there and when your only 4 weeks old a week is a lot lol... hope all works out my fingers are xd for u hun xoxox

Iwantabub that is such a wonderful bit of info and brings me some comfort :) I've never read how your weeks are affected by length of time between conception and implantation (only cycle length). But it sure does make sense! Thank you so much! :):):)

Please keep us posted Hun will be praying for you :hugs:

no worries hun...

my due date has changed twice and I am 1 week away from my 12 week scan so they may change again... everyone body's are so different.

I really hope all works out for you ... doesn't matter how far along u are u will stress the whole way lol... I still am lol

Hi....some women just have low rising hcg level....it's nothing to worry about as long as they are rising ....Hcg levels are just guidelines for dr to see how pregnancy is progressing when they can't see the baby on the ultra sound that early ...the dr don't even bother about hcg once thy see heart beat ...if you google slow rising or low hcg levels you will come across tons of woman who have gone on to have healthy pregnancy with low rising levels ....

fx for you

I wouldn't worry hun, my doc told me not to look to much into levels as they vary so much each person, that being said I can't not worry about them, my last pregnancy I went in at 4 weeks 2 days and had a level of just 21 and 2 days later 43! It did rise but because so low I new it would end in miscarriage and it did! This time I'm over 5 weeks and haven't had them checked yet but have got 1-2 2-3 an 3+ on digi so am hopefull, will have a scan and bloods done when I'm exactly 6 weeks on Friday, so hopefull!
Hope all is ok and bubs is just being a little lazy at the mo!

Thank you everyone. Here's an update. I haven't gotten results from yesterday's blood draw but had quite a bit of brown discharge. This, with the low 700 is making me think I have miscarried and the 700 might have been while my levels were already dropping. I still have a tiny bit of hope. Waiting until tomorrow morning is going to be nerve racking. Thank you for all the advice and well wishes in the mean time. Will post another update tomorrow.

Brown blood is old blood sweetie. Do you know exactly when you ovulated? You could be a little behind? I am 5 days behind where I should be based on lmp! It makes a lot of difference. Don't lose hope hunni x

My lmp was 9/23 and I got my positive opk on 10/9. My cycles were a bit long so it took us a while to get the opk's right. We kept missing my ovulation days until we decided to buy the 20 pack to cover almost the entire cycle.

No cramps or pains so I'm hoping the brown blood isnt anything to worry about but I've read of people getting brown followed by red.

So far the only preg symptoms I've gotten are sore breasts and even more sore nipples and occasional headaches. No nausea, cravings or anything else associated with early pregnancy.

I'll try not to lose hope and stay positive because I know the stress isn't good for the baby.

I didn't get any sickness or major symptoms until I was 6 weeks hun... brown blood is ok as long as your not a negative blood type.

I believe it's not a lot of woman get nausea ,craving etc..very early ...I am 5 weeks & 3 days today I don't have nausea ,craving except for very sore painful bbs ...the only way I know I am pregnant are my very dark hpt that started faint at 10 dpo and went on to become very dark ...I am doing 3 hpt every week 2 days apart till I have my Dr app at 8 weeks ...

Pls don't loose hope :flower:.....not all spotting and even fresh blood leads to mc ...I have seen my Sis go through massive bleed at 7 weeks and is now 4 months plus preg .... if you research online spotting and old brown blood are also common to early pregnancy lots of woman have had them and gone on to have healthy preg....hope your hcg rises and doubles ...I have my fx for you

So from noon today, till about 20 minutes ago, the brown discharge turned into a menstrual like flow. Not extremely heavy, but very dark red almost black with small clots. Will call my ob in the am since going to the ER now won't do anything except confirm or deny what I believe is happening. If its confirmed then I'll just have wasted hours crying and feeling sorry for myself and if it's denied, I'll be better off resting the night.

Thank you all for your continued support throughout these past 24 hours. I guess I'll post a final update tomorrow. Good night mamas and daddys :)

naw huni I'm so sorry...
I am crossing my fingers but if this doesn't work out please please don't let this dishearten you tho. I and many women have experienced the same thing and gone on to have healthy pregnancies. I really hope your ok and have support you need. xoxox lots of hugs and love
