Hi ladies

First of all congratulations on your pregnancies. I have just found out I'm pregnant and going by my last period I am around 4 weeks. The thing is I have a job interview on wednesday (nursery nurse). Will I have to tell them I am pregnant? Or can I keep it quiet? xx

Hello - I was in a similar situation - although didnt know i was pregnant when i had the interview. I got the job and told them when i was 10 weeks. They were absolutely fine. The HR lady said they're not allowed to ask - even if you're obviously pregnant - and you dont have to tell them. They arent supposed to take into account the fact you're pregnant when deciding who to offer the job too. I wouldnt tell them. (As bad as you feel - i feel awful but it happens!). You woudlnt tell them at 4 weeks if you had been working there a while. I say go for it - you need the job then dont let it stop you. Of they discriminate against you because you're pregnant then you can sue them. It wont come to that but it makes me feel better about my situation.

Good luck!!!! xx

i would keep it quiet!
You are early enough that its possible you wouldnt know. I wouldnt want it to go against me, which some emlpoyers wouldnt like the thought of having to give someone new maternity leave!
Congratulations and good luck!

Thanks ladies I will tell them after my 12 weeks scan if I get the job  x

I would make sure that all your vaccinations are up to date, though -- as a nursery nurse, you would exposed to lots of germs (I notice you have a little one already, so probably fine). In my case, I never had chicken pox, so was told to stay away from small children!

I agree with the others, 4 wks is too early for you 'to know', so go for the interview and good luck!

best wishes

Definitely keep it quiet. It would be perfectly reasonable to say you didn't know at the time of the interview. There is no legal requirement to inform your employers before 25 weeks in the UK, although obviously they might work it out for themselves by that point!
Good luck with the interview!

I agree that I wouldn't tell them just yet.

Good luck :flower:

I would keep quiet for now too. I'm in a similar situation - I was offered a nursery nurse job which I started last week. A week after they offered me the job I found out I was pregnant. I didn't say anthing for a while but now I am 10 weeks and am going to be needing time off for the scan in a couple of weeks so I'm going to tell them on Weds when I'm in.
The shouldn't hold it against you when you do tell them because that is against the law but do watch out for them treating you differently (in a negative way) that relates to your pregnancy because I've heard some horror stories about this.

Hope everything goes ok for you and you get the job. Fingers crossed for you :)
