hi, my sons 5 months tomorrow + although he usually goes down at the same time at night, 7pm (its impossible to keep him up any later) and gets up at 6am, he has never slept through the night. up until a few weeks back he would be restless but wouldnt get up for a feed until 4am but he had a bad cold a few weeks ago and it knocked him for six now he gets up at 12, 3 then 6 for his feeds. i know it takes time for a baby to establish a routine but i wondered if there was any ideas on how to maybe help him settle at night i.e sleep longer without feeds.
p.s ever since he was born he has never slept in his cot - moses basket as he constantly wakes up and wont go back to sleep unless in our bed, i put up with it for the first few weeks but tiredness took over and i gave in and let him in with us now im finding it impossible to get him in his cot (hes never slept in it through the day either, he just wakes up as soon as you put him down or five minutes after you leave him)

Hi. This sounds pretty much how little girl was until 3 days ago. She is just over 5 months old - was 5 months on mothers day - and has been pretty much sleeping with us until 3 days ago when I tried her in her cot and she went down no problem! I had taken the side of the cot off so I could get down to her level i.e. fool her into thinking I was sleeping alongside her if necessary which I had to do for about 2 minutes the first night but since then she has gone down no problem! We did try her in the cot a few weeks ago and whilst she did eventually go to sleep there were lots of tears which I couldn't cope with. She is now sleeping longer and goes down no problem after the one feed she still has during the night and I honestly beleive it is because she is ready to sleep on her own now so my advice would be not to worry too much at this stage though I understand why you want more sleep as things will get better x

I had sort of the same issue with my LO until last week..He does sleep in his own crib, but in our room and had been doing really well with sleeping cycle until he turned 4 months and then all hell broke loose; it was like he was a newborn again and started waking up at 12, 3 and 4, or 6.

It took a lot of patience at my end up I sort of got him to sleep thourgh the night. He usually goes down at about 9 pm. What I started doing was dreamfeed him a bottle at 11:30 (which is when I go to bed) so that eliminated the 12 AM waking.

I then started giving him less than an ounce of water instead of milk for 3 am feeding..he was fighting it at first but got used to it in a day (He just eats more during the day now) so eventually that also eliminated.

Now he wakes up at 5 or 6 for diaper change and feeding and then sleeps until 9am so I dont mind it so much...I hope this helps
