No boy parts yet means girl??

Hey ladies,

Just a quick question. Just had my 17week scan and doctor said there are no boy parts yet. Does it mean l am having girl??(secretly hoping).
But, doctor also mentioned that it does not mean it's not a boy. And told me to wait for 21 week scan.

Have any of you had experience where you were told girl and then discovered it is boy??

I am just happy to see my healthy baby but want to start shopping and nursery. 1month seems so long.....

I havent had this experience but I know 2 people who at my local hospital were told they were having girls at 20 wk scan but then at later scans fpund out they were having boys.

I was told at 16 weeks that the tech was 95% sure he saw a willy an pointed it out.

With my DD they couldn't tell at 16 weeks and at 20 weeks she had it all showing and was told girl.

However my sister was told at 16, 20 and 24 weeks that it "looks like a girl " and she delivered a boy.

I still like to trust them though because they are rarely wrong

A friend of my oh was told girl and ended up with a little boy! I found out at 16 weeks mine was boy number 5 but oh is total not convinced got my 21 week scan next Wednesday so I will be asking for confirmation x

The thing is doctor didn't give much effort to see if it is girl or boy. She just did it casually. So, i don't know what to think. My gut is telling me from day 1 it is a girl, because i conceived after 3 days of dtd. So, i am so eager to know it.

Also, the view was not so clear so it makes me more curious.

But, I guess i have to suck it up and wait for month. Btw, I have few girly clothing which I bought a year ago to gift to friend but, Couldn't give it because she left country and we were not able to meet. So, I kept those. I am not sure why I am being so biased when, my heart says all I need is a healthy baby. Ughhh....

Boys can sometimes hide their bits so the absence of boy parts does not mean girl. They need to see the 3 lines.

YES. I was told, "I don't see any boy parts, so it might be a girl." Might being the key word there, obviously, because next scan, baby was a boy.

Listen to your doctor and take this with a grain of salt till your next scan.

Jammers77, thanks for reply. I am definitely going to keep my mind open after hearing your experience and hold my shopping and nursery decoration till 21week scan. Guess, I was too excited to know the gender but, again I will be loving both boy and girl equally

Omg this thread has me uber paranoid now lol! I have a gender scan at 16 weeks, but it is 4D. Shouldn't I get a pretty accurate guess of gender using 4D equipment?

Hi there.

I think you should be. Don't be paranoid. Mine was just normal scan and moreover I think my doc didn't wanted to rush and give me wrong guess.
So, yours should be fine. Please update once you know the gender and gl.

My cousin was told up until she was 6 months along that she was having a girl. They only had girl stuff, only had a girl name picked out, everything was pink. Cousin got really sick and the baby was delivered by emergency c-section just after she was 6 months pregnant. She delivered a tiny baby boy. =/

I'm hoping for a girl, so I'm nervous for my 20 week scan - - - what if they're wrong?! =p I'll go nuts and buy whatever color I'm told I'm having.

Exactly, my concern also is same. I think we should just wait for 2-3 scans before going bananas over buying girly stuff. Wish you very gl for your scan. When is it btw? I am going on June 6th.

With my youngest I was told possibly a girl as no boy parts at 16 weeks and she is a girl. With this baby I was told boy at 16 weeks and boy at 20, 22,23 and 24 weeks. A friend was told girl at 3 scans and had a boy. He was born 1st of april so she thought her husband and midwife were having her on at first

It doesn't definitely mean it is a girl. Testicles don't drop until the 6th-7th month so just can sometimes be hard to tell.

i had scan at 17 weeks, lo willy was HUGE! couldnt mistake it

they say yet cos they cant be 100% altho sounds like there 90% sure its a girl

not sure but it was even more obvious be it at 28 weeks tho that i were having a boy-looked funny lil ballys on 3d
