Thought I'd come back and update-bought a toddler duvet and pillow for his cot with a Thomas duvet (pillow was to try and help alleviate his cough but I ended up coming out of the shop with duvet, pillow and 2 duvet cover sets 
) and now he can't get enough of bed 
He stands bouncing beside his cot wanting to get in, it's very sweet. We have had no tears or problems to get him to nap during the day or to go to bed at night, and he hasn't cried during the night either
