Me and OH have decided against bloods being done for downs, I know I wouldnt have an amino and even worse terminate. So really whats the point in worrying if the bloods come back high risk. If my 20 week scan comes back with something then it will give us a chance to prepare for the outcome.

Anyone else declined them, were only 26 as well so our chances are low

I'm starting to think we'd decline them too.... im still unsure but like you, i would do the amnio either, so whats the point?

we declined the test with all 3 of our children. like you i wouldnt of had an amnio or termination so there was no point in worrying

We declined all the tests with our daughter and did the same for this baby. I have heard of so many false positives it's just not worth the months of stress when nothing could be wrong at all.

We declined also. Didnt want to worry myself.

I'm having them done in a couple of weeks. I had them done with my daughter to xx

I had them done with dd and they came back positive at 200/1 chance, the odds were in our favour and the risk of m/c with the amnio was greater than the risk of downs so we opted to take our chances as whatever it was still our baby, I spent the rest of the pregnancy worrying though, so with our ds we declined the test.

I didnt decline the bloods but even if it come back high risk i wouldnt terminate. I'll love my son no matter what :)

Thanx ladies, it is really good to know im not the only one to refuse the test

We are not going to have them either.

My midwife said if you aren't going to have the amnio and you wouldn't terminate whatever the results then there is no point in having the blood tests. They can be inaccurate so you may worry for nothing, or they might come back negative and your baby can still have downs syndrome.

If you've made up your mind to not terminate and they can only give you odds on the baby's downs status then theres no point. I wouldn't have it done, even if the results came back as chances of 1 in 1000 I would worry. No odds, no worrying!

Also being so young your risk is very low, so I think your making the right chioce.

:hugs:

We're not having it done either. I understand parents who would want to know ahead of time, to prepare for the possibility, but I would just worry nonstop. I do enough of that already, I don't need any more!

I am having it done next week, I dont see no harm I personally would rather know and prepare ourselves then not know. Personal choice of course!! I deffinitely do see why people would decline though especially ones who worry. I am 22 my chances are real low,, but going for it anyways!

Nope never going to have these tests done. To know for sure you have to be prepared to have the amnio test done as the blood screening is known to be very inaccurate.

Causes so much unnecessary worry for so many people. And then there are the ones who say that they are at a very low risk and end up with a baby with downs (happened to one of my friends)

I do it to see the baby..:sorry: We get only 2 without..Anatomy and check to see if a baby in there:(...great idea though..

I belies those bloods test for other really awful chromosomal abnormalities as well though and I feel people should do them for that reason even if they aren't thinking they would terminate for downs. But personally I think there are other horrible things you could spare your baby from as well as prepare yourself if you are very high risk for downs. But of course this is a very personal decision so just make sure you talk to your oh and do what is right for you.

I think in the uk its only downs but im not a 100% sure, I had other bloods yesterday and they check for other things.

we're definately going to decline the test as I know we would not do anything differently what ever the results so there is no point for us.
