Now I'm a little worried.

Got my blood tests back. These were taken at 4w 3d.

HCG 81
Progesterone 8.4

They're calling in a prescription for supplementing the progesterone. The nurse said the doctor likes to see it above 12. I think my mother had to take progesterone. I don't know much about it but this is on my side of things, right and not the baby's side? So this doesn't necessarily mean something is wrong with the baby, right?

She said the HCG is in the normal range and said I'm real early. I go back Monday to have everything rechecked.

I haven't seen the doctor yet as he waits until 7 weeks. But if the progesterone supplements prevent a miscarriage of an otherwise healthy baby, I'm glad I went in super early for testing!

Anyone who can tell me it'll be okay will be an angel lol!

Hcg varies so much from woman to woman the only way you can tell is to get a 2nd draw to see if the numbers rises! Good luck!!!

Hi. You really need another beta drawn to see how your hcg is doing. I'm not sure about the progesterone. I think my doctor liked to see it about 20 iirc, so it's good that you're getting supplements. My hcg with my son was 39 at 3w3w and the nurse was concerned that it was low. Then I bled/spotted for the first 10 weeks with him. Oh, and I was in the ER a few times b/c of cramping and then I had preterm labor so was on bedrest from 30 weeks onwards. My point is that...really, no one can tell how things are going to be. I feel like he beat the odds. One of the ER doctors I saw really thought I would miscarry. You just never know. I hope that everyone works out great for you!

yes, progesterone is what you produce, until the placenta begins to at the end of the first tri. the progesterone level has to stay up to sustain a pregnancy. when it drops, you get af.

in one of my chemicals, my progesterone was 11. the doctor told me that they only write prescriptions for 10 or below, so didn't give me one. at that time, my hcg was going up normally, but within a week I lost it. (a diff doc thinks it was b/c of egg quality since i O'd crazy late, but put me on suppl after, because it was a possible contributor)

this last cycle i was on a progesterone suppl. after I'd been taking it for around 2 weeks, my progesterone was in the 70s- a much better number. i had some rough side effects from it, but finally got to stop at 13 weeks. i think the combination of progesterone and femara (which helped me O at a more normal time, so a better quality egg) allowed me to keep this pregnancy!

good luck!! as long as your tests get darker and you aren't spotting, i'd guess you're doing alright!

I had a early natural MC at 6 weeks with my first pregnancy - no idea why. I never had bloods drawn.

I was very vigilant with my second pregnancy and went right in at 4 weeks for lab work. I started progesterone supplementation from 4-12 weeks for an initial progesterone of about 9 I think (the numbers can be different depending on what country you're from, too. I'm in the US.) Now I have a healthy, active one year old toddler. :) I have no idea if it was the progesterone that helped the pregnancy succeed, but it gave me peace of mind. I took vaginal suppositories every night - can't remember the dosage. I think it contributed to my feeling very crappy my first trimester (worst in the evening, best around midday) - but if that's what it took for a healthy pregnancy, then that's ok. Unfortunately, there is no way to know....

I was told I had low progesterone with my previous pregnancy and had to be given supplements (especially since I had a few bleeds), but my ob doesn't prescribe them until she sees heart beats, which her u/s can pick up quite early (or at least earlier than the ob I saw this time- who told me that she will not be checking for progesterone as everything looks fine on the u/s). In my previous pregnancy the bleeding started at 6 wks, heart beat was seen at 6 wks 2 days and that's when I was given progesterone. But I think other doctors do it differently.

good luck :)

Thank you everyone.
I go in tomorrow to get blood drawn again. I think I'll feel better if my hormone level doubles like it's supposed to.

Hey Peanutt, I responded in another thread but I had a similar issue. I knew I had low progesterone with ovulation as I have gone through fertility treatments and IUI's and my progesterone was low after ovulation both times. My first blood draw showed a progesterone of 9.7(fertility specialist wanted it above 20), I think I was 18dpo at that time, and I had to go to my family doc to actually order the bloodwork because my OB hadn't seen me in 2 years and they wanted to wait until I was closer to 8wks...so glad I called my family doc.

Anyway when it came back low, since my OB wouldn't help me I called my fertility specialist whom I hadn't seen since January because of financial reasons (this pregnancy is my first and was a total surprise). They were wonderful and ordered me to be on Progesterone 200mg twice a day and had my labs retested a few days later and it was so much better(40)!! I had it tested again a week later and again, much better (52)!! My HCG was good as well, but like someone else said, don't count on just one HCG, you have to go by the doubling time, everyones numbers differ. My first one was at 18dpo and was 405, then at 28dpo it was 16,513!

I have seen so many stories on here about people with low progesterone who went on to have healthy babies, so I try not to worry too much. My first appt is Tuesday so I'm hoping to feel a lot better after that!

Yes, you will be ok. My progesterone dropped from 41 to 12, I am now taking progesterone oil every day and progesterone vaginal inserts x3. My P has now climbed back up to 37 and I had US 2 days ago with a HB of 157!

Hi Peanutt,

I hope all went well on your follow-up today. Just wanted to share my thoughts with you, this is my second natural pregnancy, the first time I was pregnant in Nov 2013 my progesterone was about 15 when I started going to see a fertility specialist. They wanted to see it over 22 (although I read that 10 is the minimum to sustain a pregnancy) so I was started on progesterone suppositories (200 mg vaginally once per day) but I had a mmc at just over 6 weeks. This time around I was started on progesterone suppositories right after ovulation (200 mg vaginally once per day). I got my bfp at 11 dpo (4w 1d). I went in for blood testing at13dpo (4w 3d) and my progesterone was 40 (hcg was 143). At 15 dpo (4w 5d) my progesterone was 27 (hcg was 310). I was told to increase my progesterone to twice a day vaginally. At 22 dpo (5w 5d) my progesterone dropped more to 21 (hcg was 4500), I was told to increase my progesterone to 3 times a day rectally. I was tested again today and my progesterone was 60! Hcg was 9251 :) so my advice is to take the suppositories rectally, you can't feel it and its better absorbed as there's no leakage like when it's inserted vaginally and you don't have to lie down after inserting it. Good luck and hope ur baby sticks, h&h 9 months!
