Nursery

Another nursery thread lol

I don't work at the minute as I can't afford to put Grace in a nursery all week even if I got financial help. I have just looked at the nearest nursery to us (I don't drive so it would be about a 45 minute walk unless I could get a lift) and it is £35 a day or £21 for morning or afternoon. I could probably afford for her to go one day a week. I am thinking that maybe it would be of benefit to her to let her go just one day a week even though I will be at home. I am starting an Open Uni course soon and so I could do with the peace and quiet for a day to study. Has anyone sent their LO to nursery once a week even though they weren't working? And do they tend to say to stick to the same day a week (e.g every tuesday) or can you do tuesday one week, friday the next etc?

My best friend does this with her son, he goes 1 day a week, but the same day every week, so he goes every Wednesday, she is like you, and doesnt work because finacially she wouldnt be able to afford to work and pay however much childcare, but she is doing her studies, and finds the time really benefits her.
Her son will be 3 in October, and he's been going for just over a year now, and came on leeps and bounds by going, even though it's just 1 day a week, he loves going and loves the interaction, it gives her time and space and also the time to do her studies etc.

i have to say my ds goes to a childminder one morning a week as its cheaper than nursary cos i'm doing a distance course and i have no time to study. it's a real struggle i know it's only £100 a month but we could really use that towards bills etc!! i wish i got help towards it! oh well...

Hey hun...i was in the same position as you a month or so back...i decided that he wasn't getting the stimulation that he needed at the childminders so i went for a nursery however his dad wanted him to go for a extra day when im home so i get some me time or get a extra shift if possible for the extra pennys...i really seriously debated it and i remember the first week i felt so awful and i kept looking at the time wanting to just bring him home as i was home anyway...however it really hasn't done him any harm at all...he absolutly loves it now and has so much more fun their than he does at home...if you have things to do hun, do it...i know its a difficult decision however she will also get to socialise with other kids and have lots of fun whilst you get all your important things done! I find that because i get a day to gets things done etc when he is at home all day with me, it is all about me and him...no chores etc. My little one goes the same day every week for the extra day and also goes on mon/tue as that is when i work xx

Thanks, I have been in touch with another one nearer to me (still pretty far away though lol) and their rates are £29 a day which is better. They are sending me out a prospectus. I feel bad that I'm thinking of sending her but I know for a fact she would absolutely love it and the rest of the week when she's at home I can do stuff with her rather than study/do housework. I could only afford the one day though, I will see what I think of the prospectus she sends out

I send Katie one day a week but it has to be the same day every week. My friend uses a different nursery and they are flexible with the days. I think each nursery is different.

i am still sending Ali to nursery two full days per week even though i am on matty leave after having Louiza. i get childcare vouchers through my work. it costs us £338 per month (phew!!!!) but i think it is money well spent as he has so much fun.

if you are doing an open uni course i am sure you will get some money towards childcare? i remember reading that.

and bexy don't feel bad about sending her. you have to what is right for you and grace and i personally think she will have a great time, doing new things with other kiddies. X

i was thinking of keeping my son in the dayhome for 2 days a week once the new baby come along....at least until this baby and him can play.

I am going to put my LO into nursery for 1/2 a day a week, Thurs mornings I think. He doesn't really get to see many kids his age & he is very sociable so im sure he will love it. I only get 2 days at home with him in a week so I think 1/2 day at nursery is enough any longer than that & i will miss him too much.

I'm doing the exact same thing hub, Noah is going to nursery half a day a week for the moment on one of my days off as he doesn't see any other children his age other than when he goes to tumble tots for 45 mins on a Thursday! So i'm doing tht to allow myself time to do the housework but more promonantly to allow him to be a baby and socialise with people his own age as he's very adult-I-fied!

We are looking into making it 2 half days maybe from
when he is 18 months or so.
