I am planning to go and get my nursing bras next weekend, when I will be 36+4. I am currently wearing a 36DD. When I measure myself using the Mothercare guide it comes up as 40A - surely not??? I don't care what size I need, but this just seems very odd!!!

(I belong in 2nd tri so pardon my intrusion lol) I've been searching online everywhere for the best guide, pretty sure it differs on every single site - I think maybe mamas and papas was the best I found so far

I've gone from a 34C to a 36D and now i'm a 38D and still growing - every site tried telling me I was a 38B! So I ignored it and my instincts were right lol xx

Why don't you just get them to measure you in the shop, and try them on?

Although some places won't measure you until 38 weeks, since it gives a more accurate idea of your size & shape after birth if you wait until baby is engaged and your rib cage goes back to more of it's normal shape!

Thanks ladies :) It is odd how all the guides are different, very confusing!

I will be going to a shop to be measured, just wanted to get some idea now. Hope they will measure me earlier than 38 weeks, it's an 80 mile round trip to town so wanted to get it out of the way before I get any more uncomfy in the car than I already am!

xx

Thats helpful to know about the 38 weeks thing
But wish I knew - yesterday I bought 2 nursing bras in 36DD and 34E (I was 32DD pre preg). I cannot face being measured - I hate the fact that they are so big. They both fit me ok but it will be annoying if I change size before the birth.

I kind of needed new bras now so may just have to risk it...

xx

I was a 36c and got measured at 36 weeks as a 40dd. They didn't have this size in M&S at the time so the lady gave me a 38DD and said that I'd drop but not to buy any more until after the birth and get measured again.

I've used lots of online bra calculators, some are better than others but you just put your measurements in and they do the bra size calculation for you.

The Mothercare website (as do alot of other websites) uses an outdated system and will tell you to add four or five inches to your underbust measurement, but this is wrong. This method was devised in the 1930s and does not work with the elasticated bras we have today. The mothercare website told me I was a 40b (erm i think not!) I am actually a 36G after being fitted.

Best way is just to get fitted or try a load of different sizes on.

I went to M&S and got myself measured up.
I orderd a pack of 2 nursing bras from ebay.. bargain! :)

i just bought a size up in inches and cup- never had any problems- boobs got huge for like 2 days but once i got better at nursing they stayed one cup up

No one will turn you away for a fitting because you're not yet 38 weeks. They may suggest that you hold off buying any nursing bras until then but they won't stop you.

My cup size has increased by 1-2 sizes (I'm a 34FF/G depending on the bra - I was a 34F pre-pregnancy) but my under bust measurement (34 inches) has remained the same.

I just bought a couple of bras from Bras4mums and their service was fantastic. I highly recommend them. I got the Hotmilk Tamed by her Sensuality Nursing Bra and the Bravado Custom Original Nursing Bra (very comfy for wearing round the house and at night). I just needed a couple more to tide me over until baby is here and I can get a better idea if I'll increase in size as I haven't done much so far. I will definitely be buying at least a couple more of the Bravado Custom Originals.

I rate the bravado ones too. I got a couple last time that still look brand new. They are going in my hospital bag this time. They are ideal because they actually cover several sizes due to the crop top style of bra. They are however very secure and provide good support

i got measured in m and s for maternity bras they are awful way too big in the cups !! im not going back there !! hoping my local bra shop do them x

I bought a couple of the Bravado Bliss bras which are fantastic, unfortunately they are just a tiny bit too small in the cup for me now and I am in their largest cup size. If only they did them in larger cup sizes I'd be sorted and wouldn't need to search elsewhere.

I once got measured at Rigby and Peller and they were out by several cup sizes. I couldn't believe it, it was so obvious that the cup size she had me in were far too big. I had a wallet full of cash ready to spend but left disgusted and went to M&S and spent a quarter of what I would have spent in R&P. I didn't bother with the fitting in M&S though because I knew what size I was. I don't trust fitters.
