can anyone help I know I get a bursary but its mean tested, I live with OH and we will have 3 children when I go to uni. We earn £22000a year how much am I likely to get. Do I get more because of the children, im just trying to work out if we can afford me going.

I cant believe the diploma is not means tested

Thanx

sorry cant give you any figures but i did the diploma and those with children got a bit more so i would imagine you would get more.

my diploma wasnt means tested but it was only £450 a month (6 years ago)

Is it means tested in England? My bursary isn't means-tested, but I'm in Scotland. There's a base amount which everyone gets, then you get an extra £1300 (ish) a year towards childcare costs (not sure if that's per child or not, as I only have 1 ). I think you can apply for an additional parent's allowance, but your DH probably earns too much for you to qualify for that.

Also, are they still doing the diploma? Reason I ask is that I thought they were making the courses degree-only, starting from the next academic year...

Best place to ask would be your University, they should have a finance department who will be able to help you.

Its mean tested in England and the top rate is just over £2000 so I dont think ill get that going by my OH income. The diploma is getting phased out but at the moment its over £6000.

I read about a dependants allowance for OH or your 1st child but I still dont know if we earn too much to get it.

Im on a means tested bursary for midwifery. OH earns 21k, we have 2 kids, mortgage 500 per month. I get £385 a month, not entitled to dependants allowance or anything extra xx

Thankyou so much for this, I was hoping for around £400 so that sounds like an ok figure, our mortgage is £220 so we should be ok. Where in the country are you?

I'm in Yorkshire hun. They do take into consideration your mortgage payment too though and yours is cheaper than mine....i'm jealous haha. But you have an extra child so it might even out. Have you tried the bursary calculator? xx

Do they really, ours will go up with the bank of england so not looking forward to that. So they will take children into consideration when you apply. I tried it but find it complicated it keeps coming up£9000 for the year and saying £2000+ is the bursary the rest is dependants allowance and something to do with parent payment. I know this cant be right

Mine was spot on with the bursary i get, but I know sometimes it is wrong. Yeah they do take into consideration your children and childcare costs etc and you have to send a mortgage statement also when u apply x
