Hi ladies

I'm looking at investing in a couple of new maternity tops, and as I'm hoping to BF thought I may get a couple of nursing tops. Are these an essential for BF, or have you found that as long as you're wearing nursing bras most of your usual tops work fine?

i use nursing bras with regular tops that have buttoned up fronts.

I couldnt wear button up tops as I have really big boobs, so the top doesnt meet properly if it has buttons, I got a few nursing tops from H&M, they were all vest tops at less than ten pounds each.

I have big boobs too

I just have loads of tops like this;

as long as they're not too low cut or you'll be able to see the nursing bra as a lot of them are quite thick.

I bought nursing tops, but I barely wear them. Now I wear a matching colour vest top underneath, so I pull down my bra and vest top and my ouer top up. And voila - no booby OR tummy on show! I quite happily BF anywhere now.

bump bands are supposed to work quite well as well but i haven't tried that 1 myself x

I just usually wear a tank top under my shirts, that way I can pull the shirt up and the tank down, and we are good to go.

The most discreet way of breastfeeding is with a normal t-shirt or something where you can lift it up and then pull it down to baby's face. Button up tops aren't my thing as you have to pull your whole breast out in front of everyone....embarassing for everyone IMHO.

feeding bras are fab but never quite as supportive as I'd like with my wopping
great boobs. I'd definitely recommend regular tops and t-shirts and a feeding bra. Muslins are handy, always have a couple...one for sick/leaks and one to have handy to cover up if baby pulls away from you suddenly, you can just throw it over you to spare blushes:happydance:

Good luck sweetie:hug:

i never had nursing tops, i just used normal tops. i have to say tho, my boobs are practically by my knees so it could just lie katie on my knee and all tummy was covered lol

Nursing tops are a waste of money IMO. Dress in layers, avoid buttons (again just my opinion - I agree with Hevz) and belly bands top your middle isnt on display when a top gets lifted.

A pashmina in my changing bag incase I want extra coverage :D

hmmm, good point actually on the button thing, i never feed in public so never thought of it that way sorry.

I use a mix of all of the above. I use a cloth over my shoulder if I have a buttoned top on!

Thanks so much for all the advice ladies. I was reluctant to start buying nursing tops unless they were an absolute necessity - it's been bad enough buying a whole new wardrobe of maternity clothes! Think I'll do as you suggest and layer up with either nursing vests or bump bands and my usual tops.

Ta!! xxx

if you are buying maternity top i would buy the nursing ones from H&m i like them and you are buying anyway...
