I am so confused!
I had my 12 week scan on Weds. I went in, they had a look but baby was facing down so had to go drink more water. Went back in after half an hour and was only in there about ten minutes. They finally got a good position, measured the baby and that was it. I then went out, got weighed and had my bloods taken.
After reading a few posts I see that people had more detailed scans? That checked for abnormalities and such. Have I missed out? Should have I had those checks? =S Would they have been made but I not told (Sonographer didn't even tell me my due date.. had to ask the midwife when I had my bloods..) I'm kinda worried now

Abnormality scan is normally at 20 weeks...don't panic, you had a dating scan...

I think you are talking about an NT scan (more detailed, checks for down's). Not every hospital within they NHS do these, so it maybe that your hospital don't. Might be worth giving the hospital a ring and asking x

There's a new part to the 12week scan and k measures the fluid on the babys head to check for downs Ect. if you want that ring your midwife. this is all new to me too as i didn't have it with my son. so im sorry if my facts Arnt 100%

No thats normal i was in and out literally wasnt even 5 minutes :)

Thats totally normal. Mine was in and out in 5 mins. My 20 weeks scan was a lot longer and more detailed.

X

from my understanding the 1st scan is technically to confirm your pregnancy and to measure baby for a due date, but the 20wk scan is way more detailed, they check the kidneys, brain, etc and they also do bloodwork around that time. But if you feel worried call your midwife and ask questions that's what they're there for.

There is sometimes confusion as some NHS trusts offer a NT scan and others just do the normal dating scan. It sounds like you had the dating scan which literally chescks how many babies are there and measures to see how far along you are.

A NT scan measures the fluid at the back of the babies neck and you are given a blood test - this can check for early abnormalities such as downs.

I live in Mansfield, Notts and our hosiptal have only just started doing the NT part of the scan - previously it was a dating scan only. I had my MW appointment yesterday and she asked me then if I wanted the NT part of the scan.

It's another example of how NHS care differs across the country xxx

Ahh makes a lot of sense, thanks everyone.

I got a bit worried lol, I think I must have been reading about the NT scan 'cause the dates were definately 12 weeks, which is why I was concerned.
I've said yes to the tests about downs, etc. But was only told I'd have bloods taken around 16 weeks. Maybe they'll do that fluid test on my next scan at 20? =S

I'm fairly certain that the NT scan can only be done between 11-14 weeks. The bloods at 16 weeks is the other way of checking. I think these bloods are best done week 16-18 if I remember correctly from last time. As the others say some nhs areas don't do anomaly checks at 12 weeks only a dating scan. If yours doesn't and you are worried you could look at the private scanoption to set your mind at ease.

Hope this helps xxx

10 mins was pretty good! lol my 12 week dating was about 1min lol and thats it your 20 week scan is about 20/30 mins alot of detail they measure everthing and stuff so that be better hun dating scan is just to measure baby and tell you your due date x
