Jack's almost 7 months old and I discovered he falls asleep without me having to go into his room even once- as long as he can hug his stuffed monkey. I know as far as SIDS goes he isn't supposed to have it, but I only allow it for naps when I have an eye on the video monitor.

I'm more concerned about building a dependency on the monkey, like a security blanket. Am I overthinking it?

Its not recommended at all,
But your the mum so its your call :)

Although it isn't recommended, my l/o has two identical monkeys (one for home, one for travel) that he has slept with since he was able to roll over. They are smaller stuffed animals and he can easily maneuver them so I don't worry about it much. They help all of us get a lot more sleep.

My LO sleeps with his seahorse and will not sleep if he doesn't have it. It is sold for this purpose so I don't have any hesitation giving him this xx

My lo has slept with a teddy since 6 months. I used to move it once he was in a deep sleep but since about 10 months he's had it for the whole night.

I have give my baby a small comforter since a few weeks old. She has a couple of lightweight teddies in there now.

DS has had a bunny blanket thing since 4 months. As soon as he was able to move around and roll I was happy with him having it. He self settles brilliantly with it. He is quite dependent on it but I don't see it as a problem. He only has it at sleep time. I fell asleep with a cuddly toy until I went to school.

Lo has always slept with a muslin square but has taken fancy to a me to u bear that smells like lavender. It's small and light so doesn't worry me.

As for being concerned about LO becoming dependant to the teddy myself. I encouraged both of my babies to have comforters. DS had a little snuggle comforter when he was a baby, and upgraded it to a little Chicken Little when he became a toddler.

Rylan has 2....mickey under right arm, Winnie pooh under left arm. He won't sleep without either.

Just beware...
it goes from wanting and loving to snuggle the plushies.. To an obsession, lol!

Ok, well maybe he gets a little of his plushie love from me ;) i still play with plushes with my younger sister!!

It started with that plush elephant, then he'd develop another favorite every 6m or so, but never lets the old favs go, they just keep accumulating! And he has to have all his favs on the bed at night or he literally wont go to bed!!!

You can still see that elephant in the corner of his bed, he's had that for yrs! He's turning 4 in july!

I don't mind though :)

LO got a stuffed Minnie Mouse for Christmas from my sister that she loves to cuddle and play with when she wakes up in her crib. So I keep it in there. She can easily move it around and roll over, etc. so I'm not wicked concerned about it.

My older DD was really attached to a purple monkey that DH gave her on her first Valentine's Day. I don't mind my kids forming an attachment to such things, just beware if this happens it might be best to keep a back-up. We never got an extra purple monkey and when DD lost hers it was pretty bad for a few weeks, we could never find another one either.

I broke my LO from his paci about a month ago (he was waking for it every 20 mins) and he's replaced it with a stuffed elephant. He seems to settle better with it but doesn't have to have it yet, but I let him have it. He can easily move it around, throw it, etc. Actually when I first lay him down, if he's angry about being in bed he will grab his elephant and viciously bite it's trunk lol.

I definitely recommend buying a back up if your LO gets attached. It may not be Identical after the one he has wears down but better than losing it without a replacement! I haven't bought a backup yet but I will once this one turns into a must have.
