my son is breast feeding all night with some times with no break even after 3 hours he may sleeep for an hour than want more he has been like this since birth he is 5 days old today. My mum & midwife say he is latching for comfort but he sucks when prompted then falls asleep when i try to put him in the cot after 5 minutes he wakes up screaming for breast and its like this all night. please help at this moment i have him sleeping in arms to get him to go longer without a feed. his feed pattern in the day is normal where he feeds every 2 hours and sleeps in between. i have no problem with milk production my breasts are very full. :happydance::happydance:

oh i forgot to say he he feeds for 20 mins before falling asleep and i attempt to put him in his cot.

Some of it will be for comfort, he's spent 9 months inside you so it's quite scary to suddenly not have you there. Tbh, Kaya was like this and I just ended up co-sleeping, which I was quite happy to do. If you'd rather not do this, try sticking a muslin down your top for an hour or so to get your scent, and put it in the cot with him. A ticking clock is also supposed to help as it reminds them of your heartbeat.

Hiya, oh bless you. You must be exhausted! I remember this only too well and wanted to post to send virtual hugs and to reassure you.

Just as marley says, your baby naturally wants to be as close to you as possible as you and your boobs consist of his entire world.... until he adjusts to the world, and his eyesight develops and he is able to focus attention on other things.

You are much warmer and snuggly than his cot and he thinks it's super to doze off and then suckle whenever he fancies a snack! I found the same, soooo difficult for me to do anything day and night as Gracie would only fall asleep on me and then would wake up the minute I put her down in her basket/pram.

I found swaddling her before boob time helped as she would fall asleep on me and she wouldn't notice so much when I put her in her pram. Also.... try warming a blanket on the radiator and line her bed with it, this should help the transistion from mum to basket a bit!

Sadly, I found I had to be 'baby-led' for a while until Gracie sussed out night from day and got used to the world. It wont last long, promise. It's a little to early for her to learn to self sooth IMO, she's only young and is following what she needs at the mo.

Sleep whenever you can, recruit family and friends during the day to hold him whilst he sleeps so you can nap.... o, and perhaps co-sleep for a time if poss?

:hugs:

we went through this stage aswell, that first week was probably one of the longest weeks ever! We ended up starting to co sleep and giving a dummy because it's the only way we could get her to settle.

We went through this and it lasted about a week and half. Emilia is now almost 3 weeks and it is getting better. I have found wrapping a blanket around her before we feed has worked a little- we still have nights were she will just not go down for hours but last few nights she is settleing into feeding every 2 hours.

Tabs still feeds lots at night like this if she's not happy. Though i ended up co-sleeping so its alot easier. I dont really have any advice other than it will get better :hugs:

thanks for replies very encouraging i am sleeping my mum is here but she leaves on monday :-( my dh paternity doesnt start til 30th of march :-(. its funny that he sleeps in the cot during the day but not at night lol and he is like clock with this. he feeds normally then sleeps for 2 hours so i just try to sleep when he sleeps. glad to know that this will end soon.

your breast milk is more richer at night. I asked midwife why wiliam had more at night than day.

Oh remember this too and it's terrible :( Baby will get better and more efficient at getting milk so feed times will be significantly reduced. Theyll feed often b/c their tummies are so teeny. Stick in there, it will get better, I promise X

try and get a nighttime routine going aswell this may help him distinguish between night and day.
