Had to cut myself off from this show tonight. It has officially started to freak me out and scare me....

Lol it freaks me out every time yet I still put myself through it! I was on YouTube looking for breathing techniques last night and a whole load of graphic birth videos came up instead, I nearly threw my ipad across the room haha! X

I won't go into detail, but labor wasn't nearly as bad as I thoughr it would be. I promise :) Plus the end result is DEFINITELY worth it

Don't watch OBEM ladies! It's highly dramatic and I don't think it represents reality. Why worry yourself unnecessarily? :D

Some of the ladies on there are soooo dramatic!

As long as you do as your midwife says you will be fine! Most of them don't listen to their miwife and end up screaming the place down but it just causes more panic, wastes your energy and makes the pain seem worse!

I listened to my midwife and did as she said all the way through and it's the best thing you can do. Don't worry, and like PP said, it is definitely worth it :) xx

I get wound up by the "birth partner" mothers and sisters who are "there to support".... yeah right - they just want to see the baby first!!!! x

I do think OBEM ladies are a bit extreme sometimes. The screaming makes it out to be so much worse than it actually is.
Of course it's painful, it's meant to be lol. But it was no where near as bad as I expected it to be when I look back.

I can't stand OBEM the way the women scream is quite exaggerated at times. I mean obviously it hurts and you can't help being vocal but don't you think you would conserve a bit more energy by focusing on breathing techniques.. I'm pretty terrified after watching it so I tend to look at more realistic birth shows. Lol even if mine won't be all calm I like to think of it that way so I don't completely freak out :D

I wouldn't knock them being noisy though... childbirth is rather painful towards the end, breathing techniques or not x

Hahah - the Only Fools and Horses episode when Damian is born! lol x

Well, as one of the noisy ones who had excruciating back labour and a very supportive mother before an emergency c-sec, I'd like to defend my people.

Some of us are just noisy! It's not meant to be dramatic, and it's not for the viewers benefit.

Judge not lest ye be judged ;)

Xx

Also well done to those who do keep it in. However if you find yourself shouting? Don't be ashamed because you think people may judge you, as it seems they do. Sod 'em. You do what works for you.

Being given an episiotomy without the local and baby boy having a 38cm head I screamed BLOODY murder! And I'd do it again! xxx

Quite right too! For me it was agonising. I screamed because it really hurt! But, I'm doing it again haha. Besides I could have coped if not for lack of progression. 19 hours in I defy anyone to stay silent :D.

Birth is such an individual experience! I think it's unfair to say they're exaggerating or being over the top. You have no idea what it's like for them!

This is not meant to scare anyone, but posts saying 'it doesn't hurt that much! They're being dramatic' don't help either. Birth is painful. This is a fact. It's not a bad thing though! Up to a point it is totally bearable, but that point differs for everyone.

Please don't make women feel like if they shout they are somehow being dramatic, or are doing less well than a woman who stays silent! Anyone who has a baby has a story to tell, be proud however you do it! If you shout, swear, or punch your partner, you will be doing something amazing, and you will be doing the very best you can.

Nobody over-dramatises labour, they certainly aren't thinking about it at the time. They are just reacting in the best way they can, and doing a damn fine job.

I don't know if you picked me up wrong or if you were even referring to my post? When I said I found it overly dramatic, I meant the selection of births they show on OBEM not the individual women. The births seem very dramatic and I'm sure not all births are like that, but the producers obviously find calm, quiet births a bit too boring to show!

I wouldn't judge a woman for shouting. I personally wouldn't waste my energy but to each their own :D And who knows, I might end up shouting more than I intend to!

No it was just a general statement. I don't know, having done it I think many of them are about normal. Certainly they throw in particularly dramatic births for artistic effect, but having read a lot of the birth stories on here I can't help but think there is often a bit of drama :D

I don't know why I can't just write one post today.

Extra thought.

Some of the births are amazingly composed and calm :). Previous season, really chilled girl in birthing pool? Baby just popped out and she was beautiful and so. so calm. Amazing.
