yesterday it was a very dark 2nd line, today the 2nd line is not as dark as the control line.

does this mean I ovulated yesterday? or that I am still going to ovulate?

no worries. the dark line just means you're about to ovulate. as long as you try to bd before you get the dark line (line needs to be the same color or darker) and then again within 12-36 hours after the +.

i try to keep in mind:

after + line on optk, i will ovulate within 12-36 hours
once you ovulate, egg is supposed to last about 24 hours
sperm can live up to 3 days.

it's taken me a long time to figure this out (this site has helped a lot)!

basically, once you figure out the before/during/after of your ovulation, you can really focus in on that 4-5 days period of being fertile. also check your cervical mucus. if it's clear and sticky, you're good to go!!!!
