:nope:Hi ladies we have our first appointment tommorrow and im so scared at what to expect, has anyone been through this and can give advice?

We are going to Basildon Hospital in Essex, i would love to hear from anyone with secondary fertility issues who has gone though this at this hospital or any other NHS hospital, and would appreciate and help on what happens at the first, second etc appointment. I have been charting for ten months so have them to take, and they confirm im ovulating so will they still want to test for ovulation ???? Im all in a tizz and panicking!!!! Im such a worrier, i knew id be like this:dohh:

Yes, I have been.

It was the same doctor that I had used for my primary infertility. It had been almost 10 years (and 3 babies) since I've seen her.

Honestly, I found it very nice. She was very relaxed. She didn't discourage me at all. I had been all upset over my FSH, AMH labs, and she didn't find them to be impressive.
There was no mention of my age, my # of children, etc.

I had come prepared with lab results, ultrasounds, charting, etc. I didn't even need to undress! She took me into her office and we had a chat and made a plan.

I can tell you that there was a LOT of focus about the age of my youngest child (2.5 years). That seemed to be a good sign for everyone.

We decided on femara, and either sex or IUI (I choose IUI).

Overall, it was a relief.

Good luck

Thank you! What is iui? Did you go privately? Or was it Basildon?

IUI is intrauterine insemination. Basically, they monitor your follicles and uterine lining during your cycle. Then, when it's time to ovulate, they inseminate you with your husband's sperm. They just shoot it right up into your uterus.

It has about the same success rate or just slightly higher success rate than sex alone. Which isn't much, at only 15-20% chance per cycle.

I figured it was worth a few tries. It does get very complicated where you're trying to combine the schedule of your fertility clinic, your job, your menstrual cycle, and then your children's school schedule. I thought it was hard before I had kids, but that was a piece of cake compared to now, lol. The kids start school and I'll need to be at the clinic. I've actually had to ask my mom for help, and thank goodness she is willing.

And I'm from the states, so our healthcare system is different.

Good luck with your appointment. Keep us updated.

Hi mm, I've got an appointment early Nov so would love to hear how you get on. I 38 and we've been TTC for 15mths and had m/c last yr and nothing since (apart from getting more obsessed/crazy:rofl:)

I actually had tests for primary infertility as my periods stopped for 6mths (was *only* 34 lol but my lovely GP referred me quickly anyway bless him). I had an HSG (clear) and some other tests but I have no idea of the results as I was actually already pregnant with DS1 by the time I went in (not picked up as I had a bleed which I thought was AF but luckily he survived the HSG!!). I don't chart, just do OPKs - after a few months i was starting to obsess over symptoms and HPT lots but am now trying to ignore it a bit...easier said than done.

Would love to hear how you get on :hugs:

:hi:SWlondonmum,

The appointment went well, they werent too interested in much, took some previous history from both of us and ordered a :spermy:test for hubby, and gave me an internal exam which included taking some swabs to check for infection. They have asked me to have some pre and post ovulation bloods and ordered a scan and hsg. Im really hoping the:witch:doesnt get me this month and we finally get our:bfp:

If not then we will be having all the tests i suppose i need to cross everything and hope for a miracle this month as im petrified of the hsg!!!! How was it for you? Did it hurt? Cant believe you were pregnant when they did it!! they told me i have to maje absolutely sure that im not or they cant do it. Your son must be so strong and was obviously meant to be!!!They have booked us another appointment in January!!!!! :( for all the test results. We wont get ivf or anything as we already have a 2 year old.:hugs:

Thanks so much for that info - will the blood tests check you are ovulating (I know you chart but maybe they need to test to check it themselves). Anyway it sounds like what we will get though the :spermy: tests seem to come after my HSG/bloods where we are. I remember HSG as painful but not unbearable, though people do seem to vary in how much pain they experience. It was bad how they did my HSG when I was pregnant - I had no idea you could have a fairly substantial bleed when pregnant but you would think fertility specialist would know (they didn't get me to do a HPT just relied on the fact I'd supposedly had a period). If they don't ask me to do an HPT this time I'll just do one myself the morning of the HSG (and ask them why the hell not!!)

Don't worry about the HSG though, I think with secondary infertility we have to hope at this stage that it's nothing major and that the initial investigations will either show we're fine and it's just taking longer as we're a bit older or that there's a minor problem that can be fixed....am not thinking about anything after that eg IVF as I think it'll just worry me and I'll cross that bridge if and when I come to it...

I'm having a cheeky :wine: tonight - :witch: is due this weekend but I want to hold off testing as long as possible...when are you next testing??

Hiya!
Yes i went to my gp back in june but he was off sick so had to see another gp, he told me nobody would help us because we had a 2 year old together and that i needed to relax and it would happen.

In August after i got home from holiday and i had the spotting when i was supposed to ovulate but didnt, i panicked and went straight to my gp and he was back. When i told him of the spotting and that we were trying for 10months, he replied why didnt you come and see me sooner! I told him i did and i was dismissed! Ridiculous he replied! I was referred straight away and i only waited four weeks!!!

Got my scan tuesday and progesterone bloods and they are doing a pg test too but i think its too early but they insist. I was supposed to have my hsg too but i will be 6 days off testing abd didnt feel comfortable having it done at this time in my cycle, Friday morning i got a letter with the appointment instructions.....The main one being DO MAKE SURE you use contraception at the beginning of your cycle to make sure there is NO chance you could be pregnant!!!!!!......that really made up my mind to not have it done.

So its the scan and bloods! Good luck:kiss::kiss::kiss::kiss:

Well just got back.....They cancelled my HSG themselves because they took my urine and put it through their pregnancy test machine and it came back BORDERLINE!!!!!!!!

OMG!!!!!OMG!!!!!!OMG!!!!!!!

I asked her what that meant and she said it wasnt negative, so she took my bloods and has run an HCG test to get the HCG count, she told me to ring at 3 for the results......

I rang at 3 and they are still in the lab being tested!!!!!!!! GRRRRRRRRRRRR!

She has told me to ring at 5.30 to get the results

I just wasnt expecting this at all!!!!! Ive been a state all afternoon now i have to wait another 2 hours!!!!!

My scan was completely normal..ovaries,uterus etc all fine! She said that they wouldnt see anything this early on a scan with regard to pregnancy till around 5 weeks.......
