Outside Christmas Lights

I really want some outside christmas lights, we have never had them before. This may sound so stupid but how do you power them and put them up?

My Mum and Dad put the lead through their letterbox so put them up on their porch. We have outside electric in the garage so just put them up near the garage

We usually do the same as Sabby mum and dad, we just do the porch though....

Is anyone else REALLY tempted to do their house like the Griswald's in National Lampoons Christmas vacation or is it just me?
