Hi Ladies

Niamh has always had quite a dipped - and sometimes pulsy - soft spot so I yet again mentioned it to the HV recently and she told me to mention it to the GP, so I did. At 7 months it still measures 5.5cm which is bigger than many at birth.

The GP isn't concerned as he has ruled out any of the 'worrying' causes - achondraplasia, hydrocephalus, hypothyroidism and Downs. She doesn't have a large head so he's told me to keep an eye but thinks it's just one of those variants.

Has anybody else had similar? Late closure etc? When did it finally shrink/close?

Thank you :flower:

Hmmm not sure. Isaacs has always been a little dippy and pulses a lot. Hv and gp have never been worried though

Thanks Mrs Park. Isaac's looking very cute these days! x

5.5 cm doesn't seem that big? Keira's is quite big, I am going to meausure hers when I get home. I dn't have any experience though x

Probably doesn't seem that big but it is actually very big in comparison to the norm. Most are much smaller by this age, and most are much smaller at birth.

I'm not worrying - just seeing if anybody else has an experience.

Now get your beak out :winkwink:

You are always worrying ;)

My second youngest had a huge fontanelle and by 18 months it had still nowhere near closed, I think he was either just under or just over 2 when it finally did. xx

Thanks! Did he have any tests at all or they just left alone?

My daughter has the same. I asked my paediatrician this week about it and apparently it's not unusual and may not close up until 15-18 months.

We too still have a soft and pulsey (is that a word?!?), one..

Both of Elsie's soft spots were HUGE they pretty much met up in the middle.
All the midwives and Drs who saw her in her first week in hospital commented on it but none were worried.
At almost 16 months she still has quite a large soft spot on top of her head that dips in but it is slowly shrinking and because she has a lot of hair now you don't notice it so much.

Thanks girls. Always nice to hear some reassuring stories x

james's is still dipped and pulsey.

i wish it would close up already....it freaks me out!

Lol yeah oh hated it, always said she needed a hard hat to protect her head. Bless him:haha:

Out of interest, are your lo's small or large babies?
Dd is tiny so I always put it down to that?!

Both of mine have had huge soft spots, that are always sunken. Reggies has just closed over within the last couple months and Flo's, well, would be less noticeable if she wasn't a baldilocks! Lol

I actually put it down to the Shape of their heads, both mine have like "bum" heads that stick out at the back?

Does that make sense? Lol

Niamh is 98th centile so no, definitely not tiny, she is skinny for her length tho.....

Noo has a perfect shaped head, so much as I can tell but yes, it's round like a buttock at the back whereas I have seen a lot of babies with flatter backs of the head?
