Question for anyone who has had this test...

I just met with my doctor to go over my Panorama results. Earlier in the week I had heard I was low risk for everything and I was so happy. I saw that the best odds you can get for down syndrome are 1:10,000 and mine were only 1:970. This number made me very worried. I asked my doctor and she said they do base it off of your age as well (I am 29). She did not reassure me and kind of brushed it off and said "wait until your 18 week scan".

Did anyone else get the exact number from your results and should I be worried about this? My fetal fraction was 7.4% by the way.

Thanks so much!! =)

If you found out your baby had downs would you get rid of it? Love it any less? Give it up for adoption?

If the answer is yes then go back and demand the next test for it.
If the answer is no, although you might like to prepare its better to play the waiting game.
1 in 970 is still a slim chance x

I thought panorama results gave you a straight yes or no from the dna? The nt exam gives you odds. I know that one for sure.

Are you going to have the NT scan and bloods to go with it? It has to be done within a certain time frame between 12-14 weeks, I've forgotten the certain dates. X

1:970 are really good odds? They don't offer amnios here unless the odds are 1:150. I was given 1:200 at my 12 week nt results for my first and 1:10 at my 20 week scan (I did an amnio so I could prepare)

Well the odds are only given to your doctor for panorama.. I wouldn't have known if I hadn't looked at her computer screen and asked her to show me the number.

Does anyone know if you just get an age based risk or can the number inprove? Like basically why is my number 970? Only because of age or did they see something else in my blood? That's what I'm confused about

I would ask them to explain how it's calculated if it's stressing you out hun. Flip those results and the odds are 0.001%. Like others have said, here in the UK, 1 in 151 is the trigger point for further investigation. Even then, the amnio would be a big step. There is so much unknown until your baby is actually born, I've stopped stressing and am thinking positive thoughts (....until I'm laying awake in the middle of the night and everything is running through my mind! 😕)

Also - we have the same due date! 9th August!

I'm 36 and have this test booked for Thursday :) I read it tells you in your results if you are low or high risk ?

In the UK you get a call within 3 working days from a specialist MW if you are high risk or a letter in the post within 2 weeks telling you your score and that you are low risk.

DNA tests like Panorama and the rest aren't a clean yes or no, even though that's how the companies report them to you. They are screening tests, not diagnostic, and do receive false positives and negatives.

They are far more accurate than older tests, but it's still just a chance (albeit high) if you get a positive result back for one of the trisomies tested for.

Glad to hear you got a good (yes it is!) result! Your fetal fraction is somewhat low, so I think just based on that, they could have given you much better risks (they are also more likely to miss mosaic Downs etc.). With the test I got, you receive a straight negative or positive, but there are still false positives and false negatives - none of these tests are diagnostic. I may still go for an amnio - am very AMA and the nuchal fold, while not terribly worrying, also wasn't all that reassuring, and tests like Panorama and Maternit21 only pick up the most common problems. It's a difficult decision for sure. You are sooo young, and the test results were great, so I really wouldn't worry (how was the nuchal fold?).

Thanks everyone. I am still worried about the number.. I guess I will try calling the company tomorrow. I did not go for the nuchal fold test but I did see a nasal bone @ 12 weeks. But I know that doesn't always mean no DS.

So no one has seen their numbers from the panorama test? I should have never looked!!

I got the informaseq test (formerly called harmony). It's not an extended panel test, so it only does 13, 18, 21 and xy. I should have my results tomorrow and I'd be happy to report back to you as to what they are. Fyi I'll be 33 in two weeks.
