I always had perfectly normal cycles up until January 2011. They went from 30 days on average to 45 days. Today, I finally got my first AF since the middle of June!

I went to the Dr. but since I am uninsured, she reffered me to a place that is "supposed to" do bloodwork and ultrasounds for free. (They don't-have to look into other options). My GP is suspecting that I have PCOS. However, she only assumes this because of the long cycles and the fact that both of my parents have a slight problem with low blood sugars. I have always struggled with my weight and have gained about 30 pounds in the last 5 years. I also have struggled with acne since I was 17 or 18. I did have ONE cyst found on u/s when I was 19 but it was 2mm. Pretty sure it just went away as the symptoms I had stopped after I had a small gush of fluid come out with very sharp pain and no blood.

I am really scared to be diagnosed with PCOS. What does it all mean? How is it treated? What are the symptoms? Do YOU think I could have it? Am I doomed to be LTTTC or AC when the time comes? Will I need surgery?

I have so many questions and I feel as if the best way to get the answers isn't from Dr. Google but from real women who have it.

I also plan on getting on a good workout and diet plan as soon as the discomforts of AF are over next week.

Please help me!

I am finally on CD 1 after 106 days without AF.

(just wanted to add this note for myself)

Hi  try not to worry, I just found out 3 weeks ago I have PCOS, I would def recommend Low GI Diet as it has helped me lose weight and feel better :) Treatment clomid which helps you ovulate and provena to bring on periods.

It does sound like you have it but please don't worry, there are many success stories on here :hugs: :hugs: Normally they confirm with symptoms and blood tests.

im confirmed PCOS by US at hosp, dont worry we shall all get a BFP :) xx

I was diagnosed with PCOS in late 2008 - cycles were anywhere from 40 to 100 days. I was insulin resistant at the time so put on Metformin for 4-6mths which kick-started my weight loss. I ended up losing 45kg over the following 2 yrs and while my cycles were regular (32 days) I had several tests late last year which indicated I wasn't ovulating. Was told medical intervention of some sort (be it Clomid or IVF or something) would be necessary when DH and I were ready to TTC. Well, we decided to put it on the backburner and I started a new job - am very happy to say that in May this year we were presently surprised (okay - shocked!) to get a BFP (my GP was equally surprised) and I am now 23 wks pregnant

There are plenty of PCOS success stories out there and no reason to doubt that one day you'll be your very own success story :D

Long irregular cycles and weight gain were my symptoms too.

struggling to lose weight is mine, was sposed to go to docs to day but no appt's so going tmora to try metformin hopefully xxx
