ok so im new here but i thought id share my case and see if theres anyone whos going through the same as me.
I came off the pill over a year ago and hadnt had a period for 9 months so i went to the doctors (several times!!):growlmad: before they finally referred me. Iv always been susspected as having pcos and had many scans.
so now 12 months later iv had 50 odd blood tests, various scans and they have put me on metformin and told me to loose some weight. iv lost a stone and my period came back on the 9th of september. :happydance:
so since the 19th iv been taking ovulation tests and all negative! really gutted because me and my boyfriend really want this baby. Iv started taking vitamins and folic acid already to get prepared. weve created a nest egg savings account, we both have stable jobs and it seems like we have everything but a baby
Any one similar?
also how long are your cycles because i know the average is 28 days but it can be longer? maybe mine is like 35 or something

Hi

When reading your thread, I wondered if I had written it....our situations are so very similar.
I came off the pill nearly a year ago, things were a little all over the place and then an AF arrived...I now havent had one for 16 weeks.
I have suspected PCOS for ages but my GP told me not to worry every time I mentioned it. I have had unexplained weight gain, hair loss and now my skin is really bad.
I had a cyst on my ovary in June 2008 but still no further tests or anything like that, until me and my other half got referred for his fertility issues. Not much can be done for him but they tested me as precaution and found I had low progesterone.
I have an internal scan tomorrow which Im really worried about and they have said they will know more after that.

How did you get diagnosed? What is Metformin?

We are also really prepared too and have a savings account which we call the 'baby fund' and were both taking vitamins, his are for his Low sperm count and Im taking folic acid etc.

I dont know anyone with PCOS apart from what people write on here so I would be interested to know how you manage having PCOS.

Lots of baby dust to you.

Well my i went to my doctor several times and it was only when i went to her crying my eyes out begging to be reffered that she actually did something. which annoyed me! because as soon as i was reffered to the hospital the doctor refered me to 2 different departments. i told them i wanted to be checked because i wanted to start a family.
Hes put me on metformin which apparently helps control pcos. its a bit like diabetes fat gets stored from food around the trunk ( tummy ) because the body thinks it needs it. so the metformin helps control this. iv lost loads of weight on it and now im just hoping something will come of it. but the other symptoms dont bother me. iv got excess hair and loads of spots lol.
i also just bought a book about getting pregnant and my condition is in there so if id have read that first i could have told the doctor.
Luckily iv had no cysts on my overies yet. but they do a scan every year or so to check.
maybe mention to the doc about it? they might suggest metformin
Good luck :) xx

Thank you for that...I shall mention it to her tomorrow when I go for my scan.

Yeah thats where all my extra weight is around my stomach area and my diet is not un healthy, I dont drink alcohol or eat lots of rubbish/fast food and I drink water all day long. I even tried for a month hardly eating anything to see what happened and in fact it just made things worse.

So glad to hear you havent had any cysts and its good that they check you annually. Because of my cyst history all I have to say is I have pain in that area and they book me to ultrasound so they are good in that respect (since ive changed doctors).

Im trying not to let my symptoms bother me but things are changing so much, Ive gone from size 8 to size 12 in one yr and my skin is just so sore on my face and im quite concious about it.

I hope they do prescribe Metformin, I have Clomid at the moment so fingers crossed something works.

Hope all goes well for you too.

aww how did the scan go? hope everything is okay. yer i keep hearing about this clomid. iv got to try and concieve naturally and if nothing happens by february iv got an appointment to get my overies scanned and a camera in them and they said they would give me tablets to help me =)

Hi ladies hope u don't mind me commenting I wanted to say I have pcos .... Getting pregnant isn't impossible if u have pcos just harder.... I was on depo privets for a year back in 2007 didn't get my first af till 18 months later after test scans blood work I found I had pcos and my gyno put me on metformin, and was told I cud have clomid but needed to lose some weight as I'm a big girl. I read up on isoflavones the natural clomid so I took them the same as clomid and two months later I got my bfp, I was lucky my cycles where pretty regular but found I wasn't always ovulating so isoflavones helped strengthen ovulation and release a better eggy!
If either of u want any info I'm happy to help . We have already started ntnp this month then il be bk on isoflavones nxt month and so on incase it takes a while.

Good luck on ur journeys ttc and hope they are short so u get ur babys soon xxx

isoflavones?? :S what are these? and how do they work. yer i got told to loose some weight. im only 5ft 2 so my bmi is really high =( trying my best
Really want that bfp! =) now my little sister is Pg by accident. gutted. but very pleased for her :)

I havn't had a period on my own in 9 months.. And I have pcos... and the dr. put me on metformin and I'm also doing clomid. My BMI is about 38.

Hi, isoflavones are a natural version of clomid u take them like u would clomid etc like cd3 cd4 cd5 cd6 cd7 I took 120mg each evening on those days then my second cycle I took 160mg on the same days... They help strengthen ovulation so better egg is released or if u dnt normal ovulate then they help u ov, I bought mine from tescos there normal 40 mg a tablet so u may want to take 2(80mg) 3(120mg) if that makes sense . I could of had clomid till I hot my bmi under 35 so I read up about isoflavones... There's quite a few threads about this so u might want to check them out before u decide if they are worth trying. X

oooo thank you! well were gonna "dance" every other day and see what happens. if nothing by november ill try them :) xx

I just wanted to say that I am with you!! I have pcos after removal of iud 14 months ago, tried 120mg soy isoflavones this month and fingers x that works..if not its on to clomid!

Best of luck and lots of dust!

good luck :) does the doctor have to prescribe clomid? or can you just get it?

x
