Hi Ladies,

I joined this site quite some time ago but haven't really posted.

After several years I have now been diagnosed with PCOS (just a few days ago) and prescribed metformin.

Can someone point me in the right direction on this forum for a sub category or ladies who are in the same boat? I can't seem to find anything and the search isn't working on my work PC for some reason

Thanks alot

Hi,

I was on the same boat last January. Its a good thing that you now have a diagnosis.

I also have PCOS and was told that I wont have a baby naturally and was suggested to drill the ovaries rather than go on metformin...Completely annoyed the crap out of me and dont trust the consultant. But me and my husband had to twist his arms to prescribe Metformin int he first place.

I was put on 1000 mg * 3 times a day. Had lots of stomach upset in the beginning. BUt I figured that only happened when I ate high fatty foods like fried fish and chips and junk like that. So I signed up for HALO a NHS program ( Health and lifestyle oppurtunities ) one where they mainly discuss commen sense items but you pick up lot of healthy tips...
So followed that for 6 months and avoided sugar and crappy snacks..lost 15 kgs and periods danced into a decently regular cycle, was able to decently predict when I am ovulating..not with ovulations kits...they dont work for PCOS..but with egg white discharge and breast tendreness and stuff like that...and finally got pregnant in the 9th month.

Give metformin and food choices a chance. It takes about 7/8 months for the cycle t regularise...more for some. But make sure you are eating healthy, losing weight...you will on metformin...

I will be continuing half a dose of metformin until the first trimester.

Hope this helps and good luck!.

I too have PCOS. I'm on 1000mg of Metformin twice a day. I had to change my diet and exercise more and now my cycles are regular. With Metformin a good thing to do is eat protien when you take it. It does upset the stomach, however if you eat carbs with it, you will be having a date with the toilet. Also its best to start at a lower dose and build up to a higher dose if you have a sensitive stomach. I've been on Metformin for years now. TTCing is the general area for anything that goes, but the LTTTC form has a PCOS club, however wherever you are in TTCing, right here alot of ladies do have PCOS so no matter where you are in your TTCing journey you can join in!

Hi, I am new to this site..Monitored it for years though. I went through the checks had my day 21 test to which the doctor said my ovulation thing was at 24 so it was high enough to ovulate. However, my Clear Blue Fertility monitor told me otherwise. So after following that and never having a peak I went back to the docs. He referred me to a specialist who said that my only chance was IVF. I carried on with the clear blue and still no peak only highs...So I went back to my gp and asked for Clomid. He said he couldn't perscribe me that but could perscribe me metformin. I started that a month ago. Started off on 1000mg a day and now up to 1000mg twice a day. The sickness has now passed and the diarhea is better...However still no peak on the predictor kit.

I am now on day 23 of my cycle 1st month of metformin and still no peak. Although strangely so tired all the time all I want to do is sleep. Not going top get my hopes up though as a common side effect of metformin is the tiredness and I am so sick and tired of having a big fat negative when I do test.

As far as I know I have never been pregnant. Im hoping something good comes out of it. I still want to try clomid but as they won't perscribe it to me I may nick my cousins old stock and give it a sneaky try before going down the full route of IVF!

Baby dust to all.

Hey. :) I was just diagnosed with PCOS myself. My gyn is gonna put me on Clomid next month if I don't ovulate on my own the end of this month. I was 11 days late for AF. I'm glad I got it!! lol.

Go to the link below, maybe it'll help you...

Hey everyone I am new to the ttc section. I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 16 and was put on dianette. I have tried metformin before but I was so sick and could not stick it. But I have been taking metformin XR since November and have been hardly sick since. I love it! AF is finally regulating itself and my mood is lifting. Would def recommend asking doctor for XR version. I also get sick after I eat lettuce or some salad veg- very random!!!
