Hi Everyone

Have been TTC for just under a year. Came off the pill in May, had a chemical pregnancy the month after then very irregular periods from then until now... I don't think I've ovulated since the chemical pregnancy. I had a blood test in Jan that I was told was ok but went back to the docs today and she asked if I was on my period when this was done as the LH level was a bit raised ( I wasn't)

Anyway, she's sending me for an ultrasound but I'm a bit worried... what sort of symptoms have people experienced with PCOS other than irregular cycles?

Thanks xx

I think other than my lack of periods, the other main symptom I have is hair loss. The amount of hair that I lose on a daily basis while brushing or washing my hair is insane!

Hey Hun! Don't worry yourself until the tests are done. I am overweight a little and have very dark hair on my stomach and legs. My old gynecologists (two of them) swore I had PCOS and treated it with Metformin. I gained like 30 lbs on the meds in less than a month. They were baffled because supposedly I was supposed to lose tons of weight right away. I quit taking it and went along my merry way only to find down the road that I was severly hypothyroid. Now medicated, I have lost 41 lbs and counting. Basically, the doctors like to speculate and scare people, but without good blood work nothing matters. I go to an actual reproductive specialist now. Turns out I don't ovulate anyway lol but NOT due to PCOS even though I had ALL the symptoms. I have something else. I will watch your posts and hopefully you will check out ok again. If it helps, my reproductive specialist said that PCOS doesn't come on suddenly. It is with you from the beginning of your cycle. So the fact you had a pregnancy MAY be a good sign as he told me my successful pregnancy was good before he got the blood results. I will think of you and hope for you. As for me, well... LMAO... We will see. The girls on here are awesome and I hope you get answers and a BFP very soon!
Hugs!

ChefAmy! Hello! I am new to LT TTC as I just found out I can't by myself and I am excited to meet everybody. I wish you the very best for a sticky bean. I am sorry about your hair loss. I lost all my hair last year on medications. IT STINKS! It is just now coming back all ragged. Thyroid meds have helped a little but it still sucks. Do you have a journal?

Ilovepink- The whole silly point of my novel was the thyroid thing. It is such a seemingly stupid thing that will totally make you infertile sometimes and can even affect how you carry pregnancy. Nobody bothered to tell me any of that and I quit my pills because I don't like pills. When my doctor found out I quit he had a freakin heart attack. I didn't realize it was so important. The pituitary gland produces hormones to signal the thyroid to make hormones. If either is bad or doesn't work, it will mess up your entire metabolic process. That includes carrying and conceiving children. Luckily, my pituitary was cranking out massive signals to my thyroid to buck up but no luck! I take a synthetic pill now and seem to be ok. Good luck!

Hi Ilovepink

I had a blood test at GPS last year because had very irregular periods. She said it did not show anything untoward but also sent me for an ultrasound. The ultrasound showed PCO so she referred me to Fertility Specialist who did another blood test. This blood test showed PCOS so I am not convinced everything was right on the first blood test.

Anyway I would ask to be referred asap as there may be nothing wrong but it's best to get referred to those in the know!

Hi Ilovepink. I have PCOS and the main symptom for me is spots. I have quite bad skin :( Not REALLY bad but bad enough.
I also get dark hairs on my tummy and nipples, which I pluck
I'm lucky with the weight gain, they say that is a big symptom but the only time i've been over a UK dress size 10 (i'm an 8 at the mo) is the first 2 months after having my son. Maybe that is because it is mild PCOS, or is just 'one of those things'.

I hope all goes well with your tests :)

Thanks... I think it's trying to distinguish between what's normal and what could be a symptom. For example, I think a bit of 'hairiness' runs in my family - both me and my sisters have a bit of dark hair on the arms and also a few stray hairs in the chin that we pluck out! Also, I do suffer from occasional spots - mainly in the T zone. I am of normal weight though..... Hmmmmm, I guess I'll just have to wait for the tests xx

I am underweight and have PCOS....being both pverweight and underweight can cause PCOS...

the only symptom for me is not having any periods...As you can see by my sig I went 2 years without anything once  I do loose a bit of hair, but not too much...thats it! It varies from person to person
