When did you all start looking at and choosing a pediatrician? The docs gave me a sheet at 19 weeks. I am now 27. Is this something I should solidify now?r should I wait until like...30 weeks? Any help appreciated!

For me I'm glad I called when I did because they want to do a new mom visit so we can meet the pediatricians and make sure we like them and they were full for 5 weeks before they could get me in so I'll be 34 weeks when we meet them.. doesn't leave a lot of time if we don't like them!!!! I'd start now if I were you!!

At my 24 week appt. my dr. told me I should line one up. I have a meeting with one next week to become a patient of hers. (She wouldnt without me coming in, crazy!) I'll be 28 weeks when it all gets lined up, assuming I pass! Just in case the baby is born early or something, I think they want you to have one in place.

Wow, you're in houston too, and mine called it a "new mom visit" too.. What doctor are you meeting? (If you don't mind sharing).

I'm going to humble pediatrics, a division of Texas children's pediatrics.. all the Dr's work at Texas children's also and are board certified and the one I'm seeing specializes in infants and breast feeding!!

Ah, I'm in central Houston and going to one on the outskirts of the medcenter, right by the natural science museum. But they're Texas children's affiliated too, so I guess that's why!

That's cool!!! :) Is that your dog in your avatar? Very cute!!!

I would like to add that you should pick one you like and one that is comfortable with how you intend to raise your lo (ex bfing, vaccines, circumcision etc).

We "interviewed" several before finally finding one we meshed with and she has been great! It is also nice to find one you feel comfortable with so you don't feel "guilty" calling over questions/concerns, which will end happening, lol.

I am from east Texas and it was actually kind of hard finding one that was even semi-knowledgeable about breastfeeding, but I live in a small town so I am sure that had something to do with it.

I agree with pp, the sooner the better, just in case you don't like him/her. :)

It is my dog. :D

And I agree, if you're going to have specifics on how you plan to raise the baby, the sooner the better. I know some doctors won't work with you if you plan on forgoing vaccinations, etc.
